The Trinket

I don't remember getting back home, a million thoughts darkened my mind as I recollected the events of the night.

The trinket was in my pocket and I needed to check it as soon as I approached home. When I entered my house it appeared unfamiliar. It felt like I haven't been here for years, I walked inside and carefully locked the door and for some bizarre fear checked the windows twice.

I abandoned my belongings on the coffee table came upstairs in my room that seemed eerily empty, it was rather dark with street lamps being the only source. I flopped on my bed and closed my eyes. As the darkness absorbed every bit of me, flickers of the darkness in Dorian's house crept in my mind, walking through hallways, room after room. Somehow it didn't seem strange or foreign, and it was unsettling.

I was immensely exhausted and my head was pounding with ache. Although my mind was foggy, and my thoughts were stained, I moved downstairs and picked up my phone, I saw a few texts from Olivia so I called her, and she picked up instantly.
"Hey," I said.

"Hey, are you home?" she asked.

"yeah, I am home, why?"

"My sister is having some friends over here so I thought if I could just come to your place for the night?" she said sheepishly.

"of course you can, why are you asking, just come over."

"Thanks, I'll be there in an hour. I have so much to tell you, and also so much to ask."
"what do you have to ask?"

"why? You thought I wouldn't know what happened tonight?" her tone was serious and the blood drained from my face.

"what do you mean by what happened tonight?"

"well just know we have a lot to talk about," before I could say another word, she hung up.

My blood pressure was at the highest it has ever been, I was pacing the room thinking about every possible way she could have known what has happened but I couldn't think of a single possibility. Although soon enough I had this resolve in my mind, about even if Olivia knew what had happened, I could explain it to her and even ask for her help, I needed someone right now to whom I could talk.

After a while when my head started feeling I dragged myself back to my room, I wanted to lay down and sleep but I also needed to face it. So I walked towards the bathroom and took the trinket from the pocket.

It looked aged, felt very heavy and cold in my hand. I watched it closely, it was made entirely of silver and had gold linings as the rays of the sun. A heavy border with an intricate pattern surrounded the sun and the moon, I could see almost unnoticeable red gem dust sprinkled on it.

I held the trinket up in the light and the dust reflected. I turned it around and traced the finger over it, I remembered how Dorian had noticed the missing trinket but didn't say anything, or maybe he just didn't know it was there? I looked at the dried blood, who could it be? The blood made it clear that the trinket didn't get stuck in the woods, it was deliberately hidden.

My mind started racing, who could hide it and why? Does it have anything to do with Dorian? I couldn't draw any conclusion without any concrete information, and after going through the events tonight, I wasn't trusting my sanity at the juncture. I needed to find out what had happened.

Moments later, Dorian's words crept into my mind "my brother thought something was wrong with the house, it wasn't only ours" what could this mean? Did his brother know something? Did something terrible had happened there? What if any of this has anything to do with Dorian's mental health.

I looked down at the trinket, if this little trinket is part of anything that is causing mental disturbance to Dorian, then I could be sure that there must be more to the house, things that could give me a favourable picture, but that would mean going through the entire house again, the too behind Dorian's back.

By this point, I was exhausted so I took the trinket and dropped it in a plastic back, to be more sure that no one can touch it, I lit a candle and ran the plastic through it, sealing it shut. I dropped it down on my nightstand and picked up my phone, there was still no sign of Olivia and I was finding it impossible to stay awake so I texted her to use her key to unlock the door. Soon I was snuggled under my blankets and fell asleep.

I woke up to Olivia's voice loudly going off about some. I had no idea how much time had passed, but noticing that I felt well, I assumed a few hours. Soon when I gained a clear mind I focused on the sound, it wasn't just Olivia, there were more people present inside my house.
