The Truth

The next morning was the frostiest to date, I had been twisting and turning in bed since five, struggling to remove the warm quilt and dreading to step on ice-cold stone.

When I finally got up I wore an extra jacket and walked downstairs. Olivia and Tanner were already chomping on their breakfast as I walked into the kitchen and poured myself a coffee, "I am going to Goldbridge today" I said flatly.

Tanner's spoon halted midway and his mouth refused to close, "what"

"I mentioned it earlier," I said as I placed my palms around the hot mug.

"Yes..you did" he dropped his spoon in the bowl, "but you are talking about a place you haven't been before and not to mention all alone" he looked at Olivia, "say something"

"You know Tanner" I placed the mug on the table, "I think you are forgetting that I turned eighteen, thirteen years ago, News flash, I am an adult"

Olivia snickered, and Tanner glared at her, "I'll come along then."

"Tanner I need to go alone, this way you and Olivia can try and find Amy" I sighed and looked at Olivia, "will you say something."

She simply shrugged, "Kiara is right, she needs to do this alone."

"Thank you so much," I said and finished my coffee.

"But Tanner is right too."

"Thank you" he pressed on his words.

"Tanner is not wrong Kiara. It's too risky, you are completely in the dark about Dorian's condition. He could be a danger to you." She looked at Tanner, "even though I support you it's simply because I am your friend, but I too don't think it's wise for you to go all alone."

"I know, okay." I looked at them both, "I know it's risky but what you should know is that it's important for me. It's not because Dorian is the love of my life, it's because he is a human who is in desperate need of help. I am not doing this because I like him, I am doing this because I can not live with the guilt of not being able to help someone who was clearly at rock bottom."

"We know" Tanner spoke up, "I am just saying that maybe he doesn't need it anymore, I mean he left didn't he?"

"He left because my accident which had nothing to do with him was just another misinterpretation on his side. Another guilt and remorse added to his already long list."

"Then take me with you"

"No." I wanted to give the reason that my trust in them has swayed immensely but I bit back my tongue. However, Tanner somehow sensed it.

"You are stupid" he dumped his spoon in the bowl again, splattering milk everywhere and left the kitchen.

"He'll come around in ten minutes," Olivia said as she placed a plate of food in front of me, "I know," I said digging into my breakfast.

After a while when I was bringing my stuff down, Tanner took a hold of my bags, "Think again" I rolled my eyes and looked at him with a sigh, "fine, okay, do whatever you wish, adult" he waved his hand dismissively and carried the bag downstairs.

"What time do you leave?" Olivia asked.

I was trying to calm my nerves when my phone buzzed with a text, it was from Mr Wembley, "My Office. NOW"

"Is it something important?"

"Asking questions now are we?" His tone even on a message was stern, "There is something that you need for your trip"

I clenched my jaw, I knew Tanner filled Wembley in, "I'll be there" I texted back, just as Tanner walked in, "hello, Tanner, how does it feel to be a tattletale like a 6-year-old who enjoys snitching?"
