Beep! Beep! Beep!

A tedious sound filled the air. The environment was dismal and I could feel it. The surface underneath me felt soft as I moved my fingers on it. I tried shifting but a piercing pain surged in my shoulder and arm. I couldn't move my legs and I felt like my head was tied. I was aware of every individual pain in my body, but I was completely blinded by its history.

I tried inferring my surrounding but every motion was accompanied by a nagging pain. The room was dark, or so I thought before realising that I had something on my eyes, I couldn't open them even if I wanted to.

I could hear the machines buzzing, humming and beeping around me. A little more focus made me aware that I was alone, nothing moved no one breathed. It didn't take me long to piece together where I was. I was laying in a hospital bed. But why and how?

Getting stressed about it didn't prove as a decent choice because it gave me my headache back.

I knew I was alone, hence I established no point in trying to call someone, also I didn't know if any of my friends were there. So I waited until someone walked in.

Waiting was long and exhausting, especially because I could neither move nor see. Being awake and yet not being able to see was afflicting, I was growing restless. For once I thought of getting up but it only resulted in discovery about excruciating pain in my leg.

I gave up on my tries, they were worthless, I could not move and I could not see. So, as a last resort, I laid there and waited and soon my head started feeling heavy pushing me back to sleep.

I woke up again to a crackling sound near my head on the right, "who is it?" I asked.
At first, I thought maybe I dreamt about it when there was no response. I took a deep and struggled breath before asking again.

This time a hand gently extracted my oxygen mask, "Hey honey." Olivia's soft voice filled the air. I was still sceptical about her, but my faith in her hadn't completely wavered.

I know I heard things that were out of my understanding, but I couldn't point the guns at them without knowing the truth. And certainly, at a time like this, hearing a friendly voice was the sweetest sound.

"Olivia," I said, it took a real deal of strength for me to enunciate just one word.

"Yes, I am here," she said and I felt a warm touch on my arm, "do you need anything?"

I shook myself slightly, indicating a no. I centred myself, gathered the strength and spoke, "what happened?"

My question was followed by silence until I heard another footstep, "is she awake?" Tanner, I could recognise the voice anywhere.

"Yes," said Olivia, slowly.

"How are you feeling, Kiara?" His voice was filled with concern.

I nodded gently and asked again about what had happened.

"You had an accident" The words were shocking but not entirely surprising when I recalled anything that I could remember, what went through my mind at that moment pieced together now.

It wasn't my mind playing tricks, I was having a terrible accident, "Your cat got hit by a transporter."

"That man should be held responsible," Olivia said in an accusatory tone.

"Not defending him but Kiara did run through a red light"

I couldn't see but I could feel, or at least of what I knew, Olivia undoubtedly stared at Tanner.

"Yes, it was me who ran the red" I added.
I felt tanner shift closer to my side, "how did that happen?"

I shrugged, unsure of how to answer or maybe simply I was confused if I wanted to answer or not "I have no clue"
