I roll over as my alarm goes off. Friday. Game day. Smoothies with Emma. I turn it off and swing my legs over to the side of my bed. I stare at the floor for about 5 minutes before actually getting up and making my way to my closet. I pick out a light blue sweater and a white tennis skirt. I need something easy to change out of for the game. I take a shower, brush my teeth, and put my hair in a side ponytail. I hear a soft knock at my door. "Come in." I yell. My Mom walks into my room.

"Are you sure you want me to drive you to school? You're usually independent and drive yourself." My Mom asks.

"Yes Mom. I told you that the girls and I are going to get food after the game. Kaylee said she would drop me off." I lie.

"Just making sure. You look very pretty Alyssa." she says as she leaves my room.

I hate lying to my Mom, but I can't have her getting suspicious if I tell her I'm going to get smoothies with a new person she's never met. She knows Shelby, Kaylee, and their parents. She doesn't know who Emma is. I make my way downstairs and into the kitchen. I start munching on an apple as I make myself a smoothie bowl. "Alyssa move your butt and let's go! I can't be late for work and you can't be late for school!" my Mom yells from the living room. I run upstairs to grab my cheer uniform, just about jump down the flight of stairs, and sprint to the door.

I get to school and go to my locker to grab all of the books I need. I make my way over to
Emma's locker and wait for her. I pull out my phone and headphones and start listening to 'Dumb Blonde' by Dolly Parton. Emma made me remember how much I love this song. "It's game day!" I hear someone say. I look up and see Emma walking towards me. She looks so pretty. Her outfits are always so unique. "Ugh, don't remind me." I say jokingly. "Is it bad that I want to see you fall on your butt?" Emma chuckles. "Oh my gosh Emma that is not nice." I laugh. The bell rings and we go our separate ways.

After I walk Emma to her last class, I sit in my class and daydream. I like walking her to class. I feel like we're in our own little world. I just love being around her. I hope she feels the same. "Miss Greene." my teacher says sternly. My eyes widen as I realize I wasn't paying attention. "Can you tell me one of the thematic elements of Hamlet?" she asks. "Um, corruption?" I say quietly and hope that I'm right. "Yep." she answers. I internally take a sigh of relief. The last bell of the day rings and I gather my stuff and go to my locker. I put away my books and head to the library.

I need something to do to kill time before our run through before the game. I find a table to sit at and pull out my headphones. My phone buzzes.

Kaylee: Hey where are you?

Me: Library why?

Kaylee: Come hangout with me, Shelby, Nick, and Kevin

Me: Okay. Where are you guys?

Kaylee: Courtyard

Me: Alright I'm coming now

Honestly, I'm kind of glad that Kaylee texted me. I don't think I would have survived for 2 more hours in the library. Or my phone battery. I make my way to the courtyard and see Kaylee and Shelby wave at me. I sit down at the table they're sitting at smile. "Alyssa we were just talking about how good our football team is." Kaylee says mockingly. I shoot her a sarcastic look and try not to laugh. I turn to Nick and Kevin and say, "I'm sure you guys will do great tonight, I have hope." "Hey you guys want to play truth or dare to pass time?" Kevin asks.

We all nod our heads and start the game. "Shelby, truth or dare?" Kaylee asks. "Truth." Shelby answers. "Have you and Kevin...y'know?" Kaylee asks with a smirk. Shelby blushes at Kaylee's question. "I guess that answers my question." Kaylee chuckles. "Nick, truth or dare." Shelby asks. "Dare." Nick answers. "I dare you and Kaylee to make out for 1 minute." Shelby says smugly. "Easy." Nick answers with a smirk. They turn and go at it. I internally gag. Just don't look for the next minute. "Hey time's up you guys can come up for air." Shelby laughs. Kevin turns to me and asks, "Alyssa, truth or dare?" "Um, truth." I answer nervously. "Alright, what's your opinion on gay people?" Kevin asks. My blood runs cold. How do I answer this? If I say that I don't think they're an issue they're going to piece everything together. I can't do that. It'll ruin everything.

"They don't belong here." I say quietly. It hurts to say that out loud, but what am I supposed to do? "Truth or dare Kevin?" I ask. "Truth." Kevin answers. I want to get him back for asking me that question. "Why is the football team so bad?" I ask with a smirk on my face. Kevin looks offended. Gotcha. "We aren't that bad Alyssa, gosh." He answers while rolling his eyes. "Alright Kaylee, truth or dare?" Nick asks. "Dare." Kaylee answers. "I dare you to go climb in one of those trees." "Alright." Kaylee agrees. I have never seen someone so happy to climb into a tree. We scroll through our phones for the rest of the time we are in the courtyard. I look at time and see that it's time for our run through. "Kaylee, Shelby; we have to go." I say quietly. We get up and walk to the locker room so we can change.

"Hey Alyssa, why don't you have a boyfriend?" Shelby asks as we walk to the field. "I just don't have the time." I quickly shoot back. Why are they so concerned with my love life? Geez. "Why do you care?" I say sternly. I didn't mean to, but Nick's question from earlier was still rubbing me the wrong way. "Geez, Alyssa I was just curious, I mean most people are in a relationship by their junior year." Shelby says.
"Sorry, I'm just nervous about tonight's game." I lie. "You'll do fine." Shelby says as she pulls me into a tight hug.

It's finally time for the game to start. I try to look for Emma in the stands, but it's so crowded it's hard to find one individual person. What if she didn't come? What if she knows I like her and backed out of getting smoothies? You're so stupid Alyssa. I push my worry to the back of my head and run to the sidelines with a big smile on my face.
