Graduation is tomorrow...what the actual heck?
I remember when I first walked into James Madison High School...scared and alone. I went to a different high school than all of my friends from middle school. "Gifted kid" things I guess. We all promised to keep in touch, but you know how that goes. They had each other and I had no one...anyway enough with the depressing stuff. That was the old Emma. I'm actually kind of excited... after tomorrow we're officially young adults.
High school was a time. Freshman year was lonely. Sophomore year was uneventful. Junior year....let's see. I met Alyssa. I came out, got kicked out, and outed on Facebook by my parents. Became the freak show of the school, but in the end I got the girl.
Senior year, I asked my girlfriend to prom and the whole thing got canceled. I had a whole troop of Broadway actors that came to help me. I got invited to a fake prom, which ultimately ended my relationship for a bit. I became an internet sensation, and had an actual prom with kids from all around the country.
I think that's a crazy 4 years.

I knock on the door of the Greene household with a twinge of anxiety. I know Alyssa's mom has definitely come around to the idea of us being together, but I still feel kind of nervous around her sometimes.
"Emma come on in." Ms. Greene says as lets me inside the house. "I'm glad you're here actually."
"Really?" I ask. "Any particular reason why?"
"Alyssa's valedictorian speech has been done for a while and now she thinks it's not good enough." Ms. Greene sighs. "I think you'll be a good distraction for her."
"Gosh, how long has she been in her room?" I ask.
"Maybe like 5 hours?" Ms. Greene says.
"Yep. Alright I'm gonna go up there before she goes mental." I say while going upstairs.
I make my way in front of her door and I knock softly.
"Mom, I said I'm busy!" Alyssa calls from the other side of the door.
"Definitely not your Mom." I laugh as I open her door.
"Did my Mom send you?" Alyssa asks while I sit on the end of her bed.
"No...I came because I wanted to see you?" I say confused.
"I'm sorry. This speech is just stressing me out." Alyssa says while rubbing her temples.
"Lyss, you've had your speech done since last month. Why are you stressing yourself out?" I ask.
"What if they don't like it?" Alyssa asks.
"I've read your speech and it's great." I say.
"Emma...you love me, so I feel like you feel that you're obligated to say that." Alyssa says flatly.
"Yes, I love you. Which means I'm obligated to be honest with you, and I'm telling you the truth." I say.
"Emma, you would have one heck of a valedictorian speech. I mean just look at your senior year." Alyssa says.
"Yeah...it was crazy, but this is about you, and your experience in high school." I say with a smile. "So, close the laptop, take a shower, and we'll go out."
