Alyssa and I left the gym before the broadway actors were done decorating. I heard they used Deedee's credit card, so I'm excited to see what it's going to look like.We pull up to the school and I can tell Alyssa is tense. We walk to the gym doors and I reach my hand out and Alyssa grabs it immediately. I take a deep breath and start walking into the gym. My jaw drops as soon as I see what has been done to it.
"Look at that." Alyssa says in awe. "I'm so proud of you, look at what you did!"
"It wasn't all me." I chuckle.
"I know but, all of this wouldn't have happened if it weren't for you." Alyssa says.
"What do you wanna do first?" I ask. "Wanna hit up the punch bowl?"
"No." Alyssa says. "There's only one thing I wanna do."
Alyssa grabs both my hands and looks into my eyes.
"I just wanna dance with you. Let the whole world melt away and dance with you. Who cares what other people say and when we're through, no one can convince us we were wrong. All it takes is you and me...." Alyssa says.
"And a song." I smile.
Alyssa and I are here alone in the gym dancing together. This is all we wanted and it's actually happening.
"Oh my goodness you guys look amazing!" Barry says coming into the gym with the rest of the broadway actors and Mr. Hawkins.
"Can you guys believe this?!" I exclaim.
"Okay, there are kids coming from all over to this prom and we're letting them in in 1 minute!" Angie exclaims.
"One thing you've taught me, is how much people enjoy a show." I say as I walk towards Barry. "And so you've got me, debating how this whole night should go. Kids will be watching to see who every guest is and so my only request is...build a prom for everyone! Show them all it can be done. If music blares and no one cares who your unruly heart loves."
"Build it now! Make people see how the world could one day be. It might come true if we take a chance. But 'till the day comes, I say cue the drums it's time to dance!" Alyssa says with a smile.
Out of the blue, kids start running into the gym and they stop and stare in awe when they see the gym. There's all kinds of people here. Straight couples, lesbian couples, gay couples, and people just going as friends. This is warming my heart. I start greeting kids and welcoming them into the celebration. Out of the corner of my eye, I see what seems to be a really expensive dress...which could only mean one thing.
Mrs. Greene?
I see Deedee get Alyssa's attention and turn her towards her mother. Alyssa's eyes immediately go from happy to a small state of panic. Deedee motions Alyssa to speak to her mother, who is waiting by the entrance. Alyssa takes a deep breath and walks over to her mom.
"Why are you here?" Alyssa asks.
"We have a lot to talk about." Mrs. Greene says hesitantly. "But, I'm here because there is one thing that matters to me more than anything else."
I see Alyssa hold her breath.
"You." Mrs. Greene says. "You are my daughter and I have loved you since the moment I laid eyes on you, and that is never going to change. Ever. Okay?"
"Okay." Alyssa says with tears falling from her eyes.
Mrs. Greene and Alyssa hug and the whole gym erupts in applause. Mrs. Greene probably did the quickest 360 I have ever seen. I'm so proud of Alyssa, she's come a long way. I make my way over the punch bowl and start pouring myself a cup, when I suddenly feel a hand grab me and drag me away. I quickly put my cup on the table before I spill it.
"Hey." Alyssa says she pulls me in close.
"Hey." I smile.
"I missed being this close to you." Alyssa chuckles.
"Well, you could always get a little closer." I smirk.
Fast dancing music starts playing and everyone makes their way to the floor.
"Come on we have to dance!" Alyssa says while dragging me to the floor.
The crowd is so crazy that I lose Alyssa in the crowd.
This is more than I dared wish for. It's epic and what's more. Tonight there's room for anyone, so everyone on the floor. Get on the floor! Wait, everyone is already on the floor. Ha, good one Emma.
I spot Alyssa through the crowd and try to weave my way through to get to her. I find a open area and quickly waltz through the dancing kids. I see Alyssa turn her head and try and make her way towards me. All of a sudden, the crowd parts like the Red Sea.
There Alyssa and I are standing on opposite sides of the gym. I feel like a rope is pulling me towards her. I'm assuming it feels the same for her because she's also coming towards me.
"I just want to dance with you." Alyssa says.
"I just want to dance with you." I say.
Alyssa and I finally get close enough to hold hands. She stares down at my hands for a second then looks me in the eye. The tension is unbearable. I press my lips onto hers and grab the back of her head to deepen the kiss. This is our first kiss in public. People are cheering us on...it feels weird. We break our kiss and we grab each other's hand and raise it in the air to symbolize that love wins and the crowd cheers even louder.
"I love you!" I try to shout over the cheering crowd.
"I love you too!" Alyssa shouts.
