The PTA meeting ends and I can tell my Mom is furious."Those things just burst into that meeting..MY meeting throwing insults at the parents and you just let it happen!" my Mom snaps. "What kind of school are you running here Mr. Hawkins?"
My Mom pushes me along. I literally have no say in this at all.
"Alyssa, I'm going to go talk to some of the parents. Wait outside and I'll pull the car around." my Mom says.
Coincidentally, I get a text from Emma at the perfect time.
Emma: can you come meet me if you're still here
Me: i am my mom went to go talk to some parents
Emma: okay meet me underneath the bleachers at the football field
I leave the school building and make my way towards the football field.
I never realized how big these bleachers were. Or maybe I'm just small.
I walk in between the seats to get underneath them.
"What happened in there? That was insane." I say as I see Emma.
"I know." Emma says.
"I'm freaking out." I say nervously.
"It's okay it's okay." Emma sputters out. "Don't freak out...we still have our plan."
"Are you sure about this?" I ask nervously.
"If I'm sure about anything it's this." Emma says. "Alyssa I just want to dance with you...let the whole world melt away and dance with you. Who cares what other people say? And when we're through, no one can convince us we were wrong. All it takes is you and me...and a song."
Emma grabs my hand and starts running towards some trees. They look beautiful because the cherry blossoms are in bloom. She grips my hand a little tighter and she looks at me with hopeful eyes. I want to tell her everything is going to be okay, but I'm not so sure it will be.
We keep running until we get towards the parking lot. She motions her finger towards her. I definitely know what that means. We go in for a kiss when I hear a familiar horn. I turn around and see my Mom's car in the distance.
"It's my Mom...I gotta go." I say as I run to the car.
"Okay...bye." I hear Emma say in the distance. I really don't want to leave her side, but with my Mom on a warpath right now...that isn't the best idea.

"The nerve of those people." my Mom scowls.
Coming into the meeting like they run the place. That Principal of yours did nothing! He just stood there!""Well maybe it freaked him out." I say quietly.
"It doesn't matter! He's an authority figure he's supposed to take ahold of the reins." my Mom exclaims. "Those people had no rights telling us what we did is wrong. We're just trying to protect our children."
Sometimes, the things that come out of my Mom's mouth honestly amazes me.
"Protect us from what?" I ask nervously.
"Honey, you know exactly what I'm talking about." my Mom says.
"Emma didn't do anything wrong though...she just wants to go prom just like how I want to go." I say quietly.
"Alyssa, you're not a parent so you wouldn't understand." my Mom says.
"Help me understand." I say nervously.
"What Emma wants to do doesn't reflect this town's values." my Mom says. "Why do you care so much Alyssa?"
Because she's my girlfriend and I want to go to prom with her?
"I just don't think it's right." I say quietly.
My Mom sighs and stays silent for the rest of the ride home.

>>>> Thursday
It's been two days since the PTA meeting and I honestly think nothing is going to change. I'm trying not to take blame, but if I hadn't come up with the idea there would still be a prom.
"Alyssa?" I hear my Mom say from the other side of my door. "Can I come in?"
"Yes." I call out.
"I'm sure you'll be happy about this. We've decided to let prom happen." my Mom says with a smile.
"Really?" I ask.
"Yep." she nods.
I'm relieved that she finally came to her senses. Maybe this whole thing won't be so bad after all.
I get to school and I see a group of people run in front of me. They all have signs. I make my way through the crowd and read one of the signs. "Will you go"
Oh. It's a promposal. Woah did another one just happen? Geez.
Promposals are happening left and right. I guess everyone is excited about prom being back on.
"Hey Kaylee!" I hear someone yell. I turn and I see Nick pointing at her. Suddenly, through the crowd I feel someones hand grab me and pull me.
"Hey." Emma says as she holds my hand.
"Where are we going?" I laugh.
"Just come on." Emma chuckles.
Emma drags me to the gym and we go to the top of the bleachers. Before she can say anything, Shelby, Kaylee, Nick, and Kevin burst into the gym and Kevin promposes to Shelby.
"Okay, it's like a love bomb went off I've seen like six promposals today." I laugh. "We have a prom because of you."
"People are going to see us dancing together and kissing. It's gonna be hard not to kiss you." Emma smiles.
"What will my Mom think? She's gonna be in public so she can't completely freak out." I say nervously.
"It doesn't matter what she does. This is about us." Emma says. "And no more hiding how we feel anymore."
"I won't hide if you're by my side." I smile.
"Now that the prom is back on track...and once we walk into the gym hand in hand." Emma says.
"It's pretty obvious there's no going back." We say.
"And that's a promise!" I exclaim.
The bell rings and Emma and I go our separate ways and go to class. I can't wait until prom!
