>>>>March

Prom is in 2 weeks and tickets go on sale today.  Emma is buying our tickets since I have to help run the ticket table. Since I'm on the student council, I'm also on prom committee.

Me: prom tickets todayyy!!!!

Emma: im excited!!

Me: pls don't forgot lol💜

Emma: i won't❤️

I go downstairs and grab my backpack and keys.

"Put your keys down I'm driving you to school." my Mom says. "I have to help run the ticket table. PTA duties."

"Mom you really don't have to drive me." I say quietly.

"I'm driving you let's go." my Mom says sternly.

"Aren't you excited Alyssa? Prom is in 2 weeks." my Mom says as she pulls out of the driveway.

"Yeah I guess I'm excited." I say quietly.

I'm excited, but I'm also scared. I just want everything to go smoothly.

"Alyssa don't forget to buy your ticket." my Mom says

"I'll just buy mine once stuff gets situated." I say quietly. Ugh I'm tired of lying to her.

The ticket table is open during each lunch break. If people are going by themselves they buy one ticket, but most people who know they have a secured date buy two tickets and then do this whole "promposal" thing. Even if Emma and I were a public couple right now, I wouldn't want that. I'm not very fond of the spotlight.

I have the first lunch shift today, so I have the first table shift. The bell just rung and the lines are already ridiculous. There are 3 separate lines. One for cash(that's where I'm sitting), one for checks( the treasurer, Zoey is sitting there), and one for card(my mom is sitting there). Alright Alyssa, just be cordial as usual.

"Hi!" I say as the first person walks up. "What's your name?"

"John Howard." he says.

"How many tickets are you buying John?" I say as I write his name down.

"Two." John says.

"Okay, that'll be $75." I say. Originally, the tickets were $115 but fundraising from the PTA brought down the cost.

John hands me the money, I put it in the box and hand him his tickets, and he goes on his merry little way. I still have 25 minutes until this lunch shift is over.

After about 10 people Emma pops up in the line. I calmly adjust my shirt as she walks up to me.

"Hi! what's your name?" I say in an almost sarcastic tone.

"Emma Nolan." she smiles.

"How many tickets are you buying Emma?" I chuckle.

"Two." Emma smiles. I try my hardest not to smile back at her. Emma hands me the cash and I hand her two tickets.

"Isn't she that one lesbian girl?" I hear someone say. "I'm happy for her she has a date."

Out of the corner of my eye, I see my Mom's face harden.

After 3 lunch shifts, pretty much all of the tickets were sold. We moved pretty efficiently. Most people were probably in line for at least 5 minutes. My Mom drives us home and I can see that she looks kind of stressed.
