>>>> September

Senior year...I didn't think I would get this far. Well I know I would, but it's crazy. I get up, shower, put my hair in braid, and pick out a white top and a light green skirt. I make my way downstairs and my Mom startles me.

"Good morning sweetie. Where are you headed off to so early? School doesn't start until 7:30." my Mom says.

" I have a student council meeting before school." I say.

"Big year for you Alyssa. Student council president, cheer captain, and head of debate club." my Mom grins. "I raised such a smart girl."

I smile awkwardly and wave goodbye. I get in my car and start thinking immediately.

Senior year. You made a goal Alyssa. You're gonna come out...just gotta find the right opportunity. Your journey starts today.

Basically, the student council meeting was just us talking about what we did during the summer. First day back things I guess. As student council president, it's my job to do my best to make things better. So when things start moving along, I'm going to talk to Principal Hawkins about enforcing a 100% no-tolerance policy. Even though the bullying has let up, Emma still got bullied last year; all because she's gay. She's my girlfriend and I love her, I don't want that happening to her again; or any student for that matter.

Speaking of Emma...our 1 year anniversary is next month. We've kept our relationship a secret for almost a year...well I'm not sure if it's that big of a secret when 1 other person knows. That person being Emma's Nana...which is partially my fault because I left evidence on Emma's lips. I remember Emma apologized to me about 5 million times for telling her Nana, but her Nana is so loving and kind I honestly didn't care. I want to get her something for our anniversary, but I don't know what to get her.

It's 7:20 and see Emma at her locker. She looks so cute. I pull out my phone and text her.

Me: you already know the drill...look up and to the left 😉

Emma looks up and I wink at her.

Emma: have a good first day and see you after school😌 i love you❤️

Me: i love you too💜

I walk into my first class and I see two people I have been dreading to see all summer. Oh lord. Shelby and Kaylee are in this class too?

"Alyssaaaa!" Shelby says as she gets up and hugs me. Kaylee waves and gives me a small grin. "We didn't see you all summerrrrr where were you?" Shelby asks.

"You guys were at bible camp with me...what?" I say. "Okay, but after that you like disappeared." Shelby says. "Uh, I spent most of my time at the library trying to get ahead for this year." I lie. "Oh...that's boring." Shelby says. "How was y'all's summer?" I ask trying to change the subject.

"Well, Nick and I spent the summer at his parent's lake house in Michigan. It was so romantic." Kaylee says with a grin.

"Okay guys don't tell anyone, but Kevin and I went all the way last summer." Shelby whispers.

My eyes widen. I've never even thought of doing...that with Emma as long as we've been together. The most we've done is kiss with different variations of passion.

"Oh wow...that's cool." I say to Shelby who has a big smile on her face.

"Alyssa why do you look terrified?" Kaylee asks.

"I do?" I ask.

"Oh...." Kaylee grins. "You're still innocent."

"I mean there's no rush. I'm just 17 I have the rest of my life to do...that." I say quietly. "Anyway, are you guys excited for senior year?" I say trying to change the subject.

"Yep." Kaylee and Shelby say in unison. "I'm excited for prom." Kaylee giggles.

Emma and I meet at the park after school to talk about our day after not seeing each other practically all day.

"I missed you." I say as I hug Emma.

"You literally saw me this morning." Emma laughs.

"Its been too long...now kiss me." I smile.

Emma kisses me softly and smiles at me. This is what I meant about different variations of passion.

"So how was your day?" Emma asks.

"Uhhh I had a student council meeting before school this morning. It was pretty boring, but I came up with an idea." I say.

"What idea?" Emma asks.

"I'm going to talk to Mr. Hawkins about enforcing a no-tolerance policy. I saw how got bullied last year and I don't want that happening to you again...or anyone for that matter. I'm student council president and it's my job to try and make the school better." I say.

"Alyssa...you are amazing. Did you know that?" Emma says before she kisses my forehead.

"So how was your day?" I ask.

"Just basic syllabus stuff. Nothing special." Emma says.

"Oh crap, I gotta get home. I'll text you." I say as I jog to my car.

I completely forgot that my Mom left work early today. Going to the park after school may have not been the best move for today.

I get home and sit at the counter.

"Alyssa is that you?" my Mom says as she comes downstairs.

"Yeah." I respond.

"How was your day sweetie?" my Mom asks.

"It was pretty boring honestly. Nothing interesting happened." I shrug

"Did you see any cute boys?" my Mom smirks.

This is your chance Alyssa. You said you were looking for an opportunity. Just say it. I'm gay and I have a girlfriend.

"Mom, why do you keep asking? You're going to get the same answer every time." I laugh.

"I know, I know. I'm just curious." my Mom says.

If I had a boyfriend I would tell you." I say as I go upstairs.

Damnit Alyssa. You had an opportunity and you didn't use it. Why didn't you use it? Ugh, this is gonna be harder than I thought.
