Looking around the office, something felt different. After a moment, I realized Bill wasn't at his desk nor had I recalled seeing him at work that morning. I leaned over to the colleague beside me. "Hey, have you seen Gambini?" I asked to which they shrugged in response, leaving me without answers.
On my break, I headed into the staff room and decided to give Bill a call. He didn't answer straight away but when I thought it would go to voicemail, he finally picked up. "Hey, are you okay?" I asked. I could already tell by his heavy breathing that something was wrong.
"Blair's been gone for 3 days and already the wedding plans are turning to shit. Our baker just quit with no explanation so now we have no wedding cake" he grumbled. Was it bad that I felt slightly delighted by it? Probably.
"Oh that's awful, I'm sorry Bill. Maybe I could swing by your place tonight and we could look for a new baker?" I suggested. He went quiet for a second and then sighed in relief. "I swear Y/n you're the only person keeping me sane" he chuckled which brought a smile to my face.
"I'm glad I could help Bill."

"You gotta be kidding me! There's not one baker in Scranton willing to accept my offer?" Bill seemed almost offended by it. We were sitting at the counter together scrolling endlessly on his laptop. "I have an idea. It's crazy but...It's still an idea" I said slowly. He turned his head, peering with curious intent.
"Go on"
"What if we made it ourselves? I mean we could practise right now"
A wide cheeky grin spread across his face. "You're crazy...But I like it."
Bill hopped up from his seat and began searching around for ingredients as I read out a recipe I found online. When it was clear we had most of everything, the baking was on. We cracked jokes, boogied along to the radio in the background and made a few mistakes but the cake was coming along nicely.
"You got something on your face" Bill pointed out. "I do? Where?" I asked. "Right there," he said before wiping his floured covered hand across my cheek. "Hey!" I cried out as he laughed at me. So as revenge, I scooped up a large dollop of vanilla frosting and smeared it over his face.
"Oh, so that's how you wanna play it huh?" He smirked.
I grinned.
The kitchen quickly turned into an eruption of mess as we got into a playful scuffle. Bill picked me up and threw me over his shoulder before running around as I squealed. "Stahppp!" He laughed in response before sitting me on the countertop, placing himself between my legs.
We stared at each other, both covered in food but neither of us cared. The urges...Those damn urges crept up on me as I desperately wished for a kiss in my head but hid my true emotions. He smiled softly before brushing his thumb lightly over my lips.
"You're my best friend, you know that right?"
I smiled and rested my forehead against his.
"I do."
'Ah, the lovely friendzone.'
