The stadium was packed with spectators, people bustling about excitedly. Horse gambling never really had my interest but Bill invited me so I would've never turned it down. I spotted him through the crowd and approached, tapping his shoulder.
"Y/n! I'm glad you could make it" he greeted with a warm hug.
"Thank you for inviting me" I smiled.
Blair walked over wearing designer clothes a ridiculously large hat that could poke your eyes out. She placed two kisses on my cheeks on either side. "Nice to see you again darling" she smiled but we both knew it wasn't genuine.
"You too" is all I replied, trying not to grimace. Through the glow in her eyes, I knew she didn't want me around just as much as I wished she didn't exist. Shortly before the race began, we all took our seats in a private area courtesy of Blair's rich friends. I felt slightly out of place but comforted knowing Bill wanted me to stay.
The pistol trumpeted and the horses were off, the crowd going wild. "I'd much prefer to be in jail again" Bill whispered in my ear and I burst out laughing. I caught Blair looking at me like a jealous witch. "What's so funny?" She demanded. "Nothing baby, just a joke" Bill cut in, rubbing her back.
"Hmph" she turned her head away.
He and I shared a look but didn't say anything. About halfway through the race, I began feeling thirsty. "Do you want anything from the bar?" I offered. "Just a beer, thanks" Bill replied. He handed me money and I gave his hand a gentle squeeze before getting up.
I ordered beer and a glass of wine, waiting patiently for the bartender when I felt something warm spill down my body. With a gasp, I turned to see Blair standing there. "Oh dear, you really must watch where you're going!"
"You did that on purpose!"
"As I said, you really must watch where you're going" she replied cockily before grabbing the beer for Bill. "I'll take this to MY fiancee" she walked away and I scoffed, making my way to the bathroom.
I dabbed at my clothes with a paper towel. I contemplated, was my life really going to consist of me and her fighting over Bill? That wasn't like me at all. Pops always used to tell me never chase man, let a man chase you. So, I decided that's what I was going to do.
Returning to the others, Bill looked at me curiously. "Are you okay?? What happened?"
"I'm good, just an accident" I lied, I wasn't going to snitch on her knowing it'd get me nowhere. We stayed at the track for some hours, a few people won bets on the horses. By the end, I was tired and just wanted to go home.
Everyone began piling out of the seating area, heading towards the car park. I was beside Bill when I could feel shoes purposely being kicked against me. I tried to ignore it but the more she pestered me the more I felt myself giving in.
We had just reached the end of the staircase when I gave her a rough shove when nobody else was looking. To my surprise, Blair fell right into a bucket of horse manure. "LOOK WHAT YOU DID" she screamed at me, other people began noticing and laughing.
Bill quickly pulled her up, I could see he was trying not to laugh too. "Hun you really must stop wearing those heels, I told you they're no good," he said softly and I was just glad he never caught me.
"B-but she pushed me!" Blair had a total meltdown and made a total fool of herself. "Alright look I can't drive you in my car whilst you're covered in poo. Go and get cleaned up whilst I drive Y/n home" he said.
She glared at me before stumbling off, snapping at anyone who was in her way. Bill sighed heavily and placed his lower arm on my back as he escorted me to his car. "Sorry about that, it's not the first time she's lost it in public" he explained as we climbed in.
I flashed him a smile.
"Don't worry about it, I had fun with you."
One point for me, ZERO for Blair.
