"Earth to Y/n!"

"Huh-" I snapped out of my thoughts to see Sydney clicking her fingers in my face before she laughed. "What's up with you today?" She asked, flipping her golden hair that sat just above her lustrous earth-brown skin. I noticed some guys looking at her with intent but she just ignored them.

"Ah, nothing much"

"Liar"

"Whaaat"

You're lying" she chuckled. She knew me too well.

"Seriously, nothing much. But um, I might have a question" I reply, looking around the diner nervously. She took a bite of her lunch and waited. "If you were at a crime scene, what would you do?"

Sydney stared at me like I had lost my mind.

"Uh, I dunno, call the cops? Why'd you ask?" Her tone was laced with a hint of confusion. "No reason, just asking..." I fake laughed to get rid of any suspicion. She took another bite of her food. "Speaking of that, did you hear about the guy murdered yesterday at Sac-O-Suds?

"Yep. Simply awful..."

"You're telling me. For a town as boring as here, this is the first big thing to happen" she gossiped. I found myself thinking about it again, the guilt was getting to me. The diner went quiet as the owner turned up the radio.

"Two young men have been arrested for the murder of the store clerk. They were caught driving away in a green Buick Skylark convertible. The suspects were named as Bill Gambini and Stan Rothenstein."

Everyone around burst out clapping and cheering.

"Thank god they caught those disgusting murderers!"

"They deserve the death penalty!"

"A disgrace to society!"

"Screw them!!"

"Absolute monsters!"

People were in a rage. It was everywhere you went, there wasn't a single person in town that wasn't talking about it. Television, radio, newspapers. I just couldn't escape it.

"Well, there's even more drama for ya" Sydney expressed. I wasn't even listening at that point. There were two men involved, that was true. But the car threw me off. My dad was a huge fan of cars, he often took me along to shows or fairs. I knew for a fact that it wasn't a Buick Skylark...They had caught the wrong guys.

"You're doing that face again Y/n"

"What face?"

"The face where you look like you've done something and you don't wanna tell anyone"

"Pfft, never me"

She was right. It was wrong of me to keep this secret. It would only be a matter of time before they would be sent to prison for a crime they didn't do. I took a deep breath and decided from then, I would come forward.
