Somewhere in Alabama...

The sound of the gun being fired made me froze.

I watched as the store clerk's body dropped limply on the floor from across the street. Through the window, I could see two men robbing any goods they could get their hands on, mostly money from the till. It didn't take long for them to escape in a green Pontiac Tempest that was parked outside the front.

The shock waved over my body. Any normal person would've called the cops but I was too out of it. Alternately, I ran from the scene of the crime. Even when I didn't recognise the street anymore I kept running out of fear. What if they had seen me and were coming after me next? I ran until I was nearly out of breath.

'What the hell Y/n' I thought to myself. I had never been in a situation like that before and it scared me. Would the cops think I did it...? I leaned against the wall of the run-down casino, calming myself down. I knew what I was going to do.

I began walking home. I knew eventually someone else would find the body and call the police. I've heard many things about what they do to people in prison and it was definitely NOT a place I wanted to be.

It had just begun getting dark when I finally reached.

"H-hey pops" I called out as I closed the front door. My dad peered his head out of the living room. "Hey sweetheart, dinner's on the stove for you" he smiled before he disappeared back into the room. Starving, I headed straight into the kitchen and heated it up.

I had only eaten about half of it when I realised the sudden hunger loss. My mind was racing and I'll be honest, I felt a little sick. Pushing the plate away, I decided to join him. My dad was sitting in his armchair, a bottle of beer in his right hand.

"Whatcha watching?" I asked curiously. "The news, nothing interesting ever happens around here" he took a big swig of his drink. I sat on the couch with my hands tensely placed in my lap. To no surprise, there it was.

"A local store clerk has been found murdered in the Sac-O-Suds convenience store. Police have also reported that there was a robbery at the time of death. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward."

I swallowed nervously.

"You alright hun? You look pale as a ghost" dad commented with a chuckle. "Yeah I'm fine, just a little tired" I tried to sound convincing. He raised an eyebrow at me but said no more. I stood up from my seat and placed a kiss on his cheek before heading to my room.

Once the door shut I let out a breath that I didn't even know I was holding in. I should've said something, it was only fair. But, I just didn't have the guts to come forward. Instead, I went to bed as if nothing happened.
