"Your name?"
"Y/n Y/l/n"
I watched as the officer typed my name into the computer system. "Who are you here to see?" She asked monotonously. I thought for a moment, I couldn't remember those boys names. "Uhh...Gambles-?" I stuttered, she looked at me like I was wasting her time.
"You mean Gambini?"
"Yes! My uh friend" I replied tensely.
She rolled her eyes and continued typing until she stood up. "Follow me."
The halls were long and echoey, I could hear the outright cries of the inmates which made me feel a little sick. I wasn't supposed to be there, my dad would've been super mad if he found out I was vising someone in jail. I was eventually brought to a room with just a table and two chairs opposite.
"Take a seat, he'll be in soon," she said before slamming the door. I scoffed at her bluntness before taking the nearest seat. Tapping my nails against the hardwood, I waited for about ten minutes until the door opened and in walked the inmate.
He was taller, tanner and even more handsome than I thought. His black hair flopped over his forehead slightly and his brown eyes scanned me up and down as he took the seat opposite. "Have we met before?"
I shook my head. "Uh no. I'm Y/n, nice to meet you."
"Bill Gambini" we shook hands.
"So, what brings you here?" He asked casually. There was a moment of silence where we just stared at each other, somehow I felt myself relaxing in his gaze. "Look I...I just wanna say I know you're innocent" I answered. Bill looked at me in surprise. "You do?"
"Just a feeling...Is there any way I could help?" I replied slowly.
Bill hummed to himself for a second or so.
"I think witnesses could help if there are any. My cousin Vinny, he's coming down here to help Stan and I. He's our defence attorney" Bill explained. "I see...Well, maybe I could look around town for any?" I offered slyly.
"That would be great, thank you!" His face lit up and I almost melted. "You're welcome" I smiled. He smiled back and once again we stared before he spoke up. "Are you from around here then?"
I nodded.
"Born and raised. It's a quiet little town, not much happens around here if I'm honest. What's New York like?"
His eyes widened a little.
"How'd you know?"
"The accent"
"Oh," he said and we chuckled together. "It's a great place, you know? My friend Stan and I were driving through here before heading to UCLA where we have scholarships" he chatted. "That's amazing, congratulations" I praised. He beamed until it disappeared, he looked down at his white uniform.
"Well, that's if I don't end up locked for life."
He sounded so anxious and I felt bad so I reached out and held my hands in his, he didn't even hesitate to hold back. "I'll help you," I said quietly in the bittersweet moment. "Thank you Y/n..."
Just as he finished talking the door slammed open. "Back to your cell Gambini" the stuck up officer barked. He gave me another smile and stood up from his seat. "See you around," he said to me before giving a small wink and heading out.
The officer looked at me next and I scrambled to my feet before I made my way out of the station, taking a deep breath.
"I will definitely be seeing you around Bill."
