Siege

Every movement was slowed down by the water. Struggling against the salty liquid proved to be pointless. One had to move with calmness and agility to make use of the flow of the water. It was a struggle to teach myself the discipline of movement undersea but with the right mindset, I learned to ground myself against the pressures of the water.

A castle made out of the most precious stones of land. Crystals, gold, silver, rubies, diamond, and other priceless stones. It couldn't have been built any other way for it to have lasted our family centuries under the salty blue.

I wandered around the castle every time I visited. To simply admire the advanced architecture and the sheer beauty of the scenery. I would go around making conversation with all the Siren who took work there. It was mostly guys.

For Siren folk, men were almost secondary citizens. Their great purpose in life would be to help in reproduction. Preferably providing a female heir. As the woman was naturally born stronger and faster, they were the hunters and protectors. They provided for the household and kept everything in line.

The woman of our nation had never misused their higher power. They didn't need to constantly prove dominance by suppressing their weaker counterparts. There was still a stigma lurking in the particles of the water. The look of disappointment one would have when they found they had a son. The occasional segregation of genders and roles to play for each gender.

Luckily, I didn't live with my Siren family. I only visited my grandparents occasionally for a cold and soulless dinner. One in the grand hall by the big table that I had never in my life seen full. We would occupy a corner of the table. My grandmother would be at the head as my grandfather would be seated across me.

The rest of the table remained decorated but only our corner was covered with food. The Siren diet was mainly meat. Best served cold and bloody. Like revenge. Which, ironically was exactly what was being discussed.

"You said you had news?" My grandfather questioned me. It was an awkward time after we had just finished dinner and my departure was near. I didn't want to spend more time with the two than was needed. The atmosphere was almost suffocating. I reminded them of the damage my family had endured. The name of the highest-ranking Siren family was almost in ruins at the scandal that was my birth.

My birth held many stories. Most of which were painful to recall. Not that I could remember it but I clearly remember all the stories they told me. Making it a point not to sugarcoat a single thing.

"I found her. The daughter of Marcellus." I said as I held eye contact with my grandfather. I kept my gaze aloof and indifferent. I couldn't let them guess that my heart was beating heavier than I'd prefer.

It was burning with hatred and fire for vengeance. I had anger. A lot of it. It was something I could look at myself in the mirror and accept. Unlike other male Siren, I was strong. Stronger than the girls. It was one of the reasons my grandparents took such a liking to their half-blood grandson.

Hybrids were known to uphold only the best traits from each gene rendering them the strongest of both sides of their genes. They would've hated me for my werewolves' genetics if they weren't about to benefit them. My birth was a slight fall in our family. I was born male and that was another deeper fall but my abilities saved me from being scorned by my family.

"You don't say. You know the plan, Siegus." My grandmother said to me as she gave me a shadow of a smile. She let the sharpness of her teeth show.

Siren beard a different sort of hideous beauty underwater. Our scaled skin shined different metallic blues and purples for different Siren. Our hair was long and white. Some had dark hair, it wasn't unheard of but it wasn't common. I had the same traits as my family line. Skin, a mixture of shades of blues and purples. Hair white and long, always tied up to prevent backlash, we were still in the water. Our eyes were wide and pitch black. The clothing we wore was a sort of rubber material. Bodysuits were most common.
