The moments in life that truly brought out a stoic and comfortable aura and hope for a reasonable tomorrow were hard to come by. Yeah, I had words. My life had been a series of events that made me question the ability of true peace.
Born into a family of Vampire misfits as my parents didn't abode the law of the Vamps. We were cast away from our council and sent to live with the other outcasts of the supernatural world. Just because we're didn't exert a cruel way of living.
Right at the edge of the jungle, between the world of the humans and the supernatural, there was a broken community of outcasts. Nobody had anybody's back but nobody was going to bother anyone either.
One day, I met a girl, Veéta. A girl cast away from her kind for being different too. Her story, honestly, made me feel tons better about my situation. She was burdening her shit but together we gave each other moments of happiness. My first real friend. The first one who didn't judge or care for my nature. Our friendship brought our families together. My parents became close with her uncle.
Everyone knew about their family history but the two did nothing but contradict the words of everyone. They were far from being anything near dark.
Everything just went up with Veéta around, nothing but up. The best part was when her friend Sharia came to visit. A curly-headed shy girl with the brightest smile matched with a greater heart. Her enthusiasm often matched mine. Her crazy matched Veéta and we made an unbreakable trio.
I swear Veéta knew I had a thing for Sharia from the first smile she gave me. Veéta would always make comments about us being unbearably dramatic. Another thing Sharia and I had in common. Our deep-rooted emotions. Veéta hated to take life seriously. She always had a joke or a snarky comment at hand. She always played a mask of carefree playfulness but I knew that she was the one hurting more than all of us.
When she left, she didn't protest or show any of the resentment she had of how unfair her life was. She slipped a sly smile on her face and whispered to me...
"A new story of fun to come."
She walked away proudly, although she avoided her emotions, she was highly optimistic. She always saw the good in people. Moral of the story...
I missed my friend.
I lived in a wooden house that resembled an oversized shack. I often sat on the front deck of the house, looking at the tranquility of the trees moving along with the wind. The air was great and my company was even greater.
I sat on the bench out front with Sharia resting her head on my chest. I had my arms wrapped around her. Just doing that was one of the best feelings I could ever have. During those moments I wished there was no tomorrow. Just time is frozen in place.
We were both excited to finally get the chance to reunite with Veéta after almost three years. We still kept in touch, thanks to the invention of technology. She seemed as if she was managing more than great. She seemed happy but she changed in a way. That was the thing about her, she was great at masking the truth plainly. I needed to know what was going on with her.
"Babe, I need to go wee." Sharia's soft voice informed me as she pulled herself away from me. I gave her a smile accompanied by a nod.
"Way to ruin the moment, babe." I teased her as she got up from the bench. She looked down at me and rolled her eyes at me.
"Can you imagine how long I've been holding it in just because of that very reason?" She questioned me with a sudden sass as she walked over to the entrance of the house and made her way in.
