****************
I was in momentary paralysis when I came to. My breaths were heavy and I felt everything around me before I even attempted to open my eyes. It was a moment of awareness. I was hyper-aware of everything. I could smell the tropical air, mixed with corpulent soil. I could feel the cold damp sand beneath me. I could sense the movement of the critters within the soil. I could hear the chatter of all the creatures that inhabited the jungle. I could tell some were far and others near. It was a moment of bliss, I felt in tune with my surroundings. It put a lazy smile on my face.
I just had one little question.
What was I doing in the jungle?
When the paralysis faded and I gained control of my body, I felt the initial pain of my bruises. My head pained me with a sudden pressure that made me tighten my shut eyes as I tried to let it fade. My breathing quickened as I felt the heaviness of my body and fucking pain that tormented the back of my head.
I opened my eyes slowly to see the dark of the night. The stars were illuminating the sky. They were scattered and shone brightly like hope.
The stars were beautiful. Did I ever mention how beautiful the stars were? The lazy smile on my face reappeared. I tried to gulp but my tongue was incredibly dry. I was sure I couldn't speak even if I tried to.
I slowly lifted myself and let the blood in my body dizzy me as it tried to rush back to where it was needed. When I was up, I leaned myself to the side on the gravel wall. It took me a while for my brain to register the meaning of my thoughts.
I blinked a couple of times when I realized where I was. I tried to slow down my breaths but I could feel myself beginning to panic.
I was in a grave.
Okay, how the hell did we get here?
"This isn't right guys, we can't just bury her and pretend nothing happened"
Mia?
I could hear the sadness in her voice. I was croaky and tired as if she had been yelling a whole lot.
"She almost killed us," Siege replied almost calmly. At his voice, I had to lift my head and peek my head out of the grave to catch sight of the three.
I almost killed them?
That thought made me go uneasy. I couldn't remember what happened. I didn't recall what brought me to the grave. All I remember was feeling strange when I opened the door for them. It was as if something was burning to come out and play.
When I examined the state of them, I could tell that Siege's words were no lies. They all looked badly bruised and battered. Each sporting their look of trauma. Dirt and blood on their torn clothing. From what I could see, Siege had the worst of it.
That part didn't bother me as much.
"But she's dead now. That means she was telling the truth, she's not one of us...and we killed her." Mia croaked out, she looked like she was about to cry. Her eyes went glossy and I could see her visibly begin to shake.
Ah, nothing like the guilt of killing someone and being forced to bury them in an attempt to get away with it.
Javan quickly came to her side and wrapped an arm around her. She didn't hesitate to bury her head into his chest cry.
There was a moment of silence between the three. All that could be heard were Mia's soft sobs. I could practically hear the dramatic violin music playing with the deep undertone of the bass. I wished it was easy for me to be dramatic at times. It honestly seemed like a lot of fun.
