"The end.."
***************
It was cool. The ground was cool in a refreshing way. It was soft as snow. It was white as snow. When I looked down at it, it resembled the texture of sand. When I ran my hands through it, it was like sand. It wasn't sand nor was it snow. It was something inbetween. It covered the ground until the start of the shoreline. On the other side, the start of the jungle began.
I sat between the ocean and the jungle. I knew where I belonged. The jungle was calling for me. I was prolonging the start of it. What it was, I was yet to find out.
I was seated on the ground crossed legged. My back was hunched forward and the cards in my hands were looking favourable. The sky was blue, a blue between the navy of the night and the light blue of the day. There was no sun. There was no moon. It was sad to look up. It reminded me that I wasn't in the land of the living.
Before us were two piles of cards. One was facing down and the other was facing up. I was playing crazy eight with the girl before me. Her name was Leeya. She was the Curator's girlfriend. She was in a black jacket, zipped up. She had on a black beanie. She was wearing shorts and white kicks. She was also positioned in a crossed leg position.
Behind her was the 'portal'. It was a mirror in Zhaid's office. It looked like a door to me. I could see a glimpse of his office if I focused on it. It was dark in there.
Leeya was taking her sweet time deciding on her next move. She had six cards left. I had two. All she needed to do was keep the cards ♦️ red diamonds and then I could jump her and close with a 3 ♦️ of diamonds. She was contemplating whether to change the cards or not, I could tell. She glanced at me ever so often. I kept on a stoic poker face. I wasn't letting her get the slightest hint.
I felt dead. I was in what I considered most comfortable. My green cotton shorts and top. My favourite sleep ware. It was my world. I could eat, drink, see, wear and do whatever I wanted. Except none of it would be real.
Leeya carefully placed down a card. My heart thumped in anticipation. I saw red. My vision focused on the card. I saw diamonds. A sly smile crept its way onto my face as the anticipation turned to excitement. I looked up at Leeya and met her eyes. She looked at me in question.
I dropped down my cards onto the one she placed as I kept my eyes off hers.
"Closed." I started as an evil laugh erupted from my lungs. Leeya sneered at me as she rolled her eyes.
"I remain victorious! I mean, Lina honey, why do even bother having hope anymore?" I spoke to her with a voice filled cocky gloating. It was the sixth game I've beaten her in. Six times in a row.
She narrowed her eyes at me as she folded her arms with a pout.
"You have no social life. You're unnaturally good at this." She mumbled out as she continued to glare at me.
I winked at her as I continued to smile brightly.
"How about another round? It's been three years since I had so much fun wiping the floor with people playing cards." I offered as I recalled the times I used to play cards with Nick and Sharia. I wondered if they were in the same situation as me. Or were their souls intact in their bodies?
"I'm human, you know? I have a huge frail ego I need to protect. I have an image to uphold. I have-" Leeya spoke to me in a mock hurt tone. She put a hand on her chest and let her expression be filled with dramatics.
"Who told you you're human?" I questioned her. The smile on my face became concerned.
To enter limbo, you had to exit your body. The spirit in front of me was not the spirit of a human. My uncle told me the spirits that shined brightly, were those of entities. Beings placed on earth by The Deity to help and protect humans.
