"Right in the heart..."
****************************
The ceiling looked different that night. I was lying flat on my back, on the same table my uncle and I would dance. The air felt cold and stung my skin. Perhaps it was the nature of the situation. It felt incredibly unsettling. I was scared from the depths of my heart.
Because the elaborate story Siege told me sounded shamefully possible for me.
I had a few questions. Who was the guy I made my king? Was everyone frozen? Why did I blame him?
I was afraid to ask. He seemed a tad bit upset about retelling the story. He tried to keep a calm expression on his face but it was easy to tell he was repressing emotions. I was a master at that game. Maybe I was doing it at that very moment.
"Any last words?" I was the one to speak the words to Siege. I glanced up at him with an assuring smile. He was standing beside the table with the dagger loosely gripped in his hand. His hand was rested below the table. He was hiding it from me. I knew it was there, it wasn't hiding but he was keeping it away from sight.
"I'm the one who's supposed to be comforting you." Siege dropped down onto his knees. He rested his chin on the table. I could feel his every breath. He was so close to me. I could appreciate every detail of his features.
I shifted myself onto my side so I could look at him comfortably.
"You're the one who looks like they're about to cry." I opted to say as I have him a playful smile. He was bumming me out with his serious perpetual despair-filled eyes.
We had no time. We couldn't fool my mother forever. There would be no protecting the ones I loved if I was at her command. I couldn't let her get to me before I was powerful enough to save myself and the ones I care about.
I saw it as going to boot camp! Sure, he had to stab me in the heart and send me to limbo BUT there were pure intentions behind the actions.
"You're taking this disturbingly well." Santino was the one to say as he took a step beside Siege to glare down at me. He had Dixie in his arms fondly. She seemed comfortable in his arms. Snoozing it away.
My uncle was Jexed.
He was mindless would waiting for my mother's command. I had no idea why I trusted Cindy and Prince. It looked like I was losing everything. Even myself. Could I trust them even when the signs were pointing to my loss?
Siege lifted his head off of the table and looked up to stare at Santino. The look in his eyes was lethal. It was as if he wanted to tear Santino into shreds. Much as hybrids were tons more powerful than clean blood. Santino's ENTIRE family passed their abilities to him before they died. It was something never done before. He was more powerful than any of us.
Yup, I got ALL the information. I was in the know.
I was GLAD Siege didn't tell me before.
"Why is lover boy glaring at me?" Santino questioned as he gave Siege an awkward smile back. He glanced at me in question.
"He saw the future." I simply replied. Santino made an 'o' shape with his mouth as if he was getting a grasp of the situation.
Did everyone see the future but for me? What the hell was up with that? I hated being excluded. The exclusion was the work of the devil.
Siege glanced back at me and placed a little glass bottle on the table. Its contents were clear. Looked just like water.
"I asked my grandmother for the antidote. When I told her about what needs to be done, she was none to object." He told me as he drew the bottle closer to me. I gave him a simple nod as I took the bottle.
