Prince

What was Cinderella?

The basic principle of suffering all your life without hurting others will ultimately gift you with your heart's desires. It stopped being a children’s fairy tale a long time ago. That much I could say.

When I parted with Cindy, it was almost surreal. A part of me knew that it wasn’t goodbye. I couldn’t possibly let it be goodbye. Was that my mistake? Did my actions put the world in danger? Or were there more variables?

The truth being, the moment the stepsisters decided to jump through time, nothing was ever the same again. Moments after Cindy jumped back to her time, I realized that it wasn’t worth it. Things were too messed up to ever fix again. Why did need to sacrifice our love for that?

When I jumped to Cindy’s time to express my thoughts, I jumped to a different timeline altogether.

A supernatural dystopia.

It took me a while to figure out what was going on. It worked in my favour that I did not exist in Cindy’s world. I moved like a ghost. It wasn’t my first time coming across the supernatural. It was something that was a long time coming when they grew tired of living in hiding.

It took me even more time to find Cindy. Humans had become mere feeding for the Supernaturals. They lived as slaves, pets, and servants.

For the supernaturals, there was a hierarchy. Vixen folk were at the very bottom, they held no positions of power. Humans would be lucky to serve Vixen, they treated humans fairly and had no ill intentions.

At the very top of the hierarchy, were the vampires. Humans would have the worst luck to be taken in by a vampire. Cindy had the best worst luck. Santino was second in command in the revolution. He was so high up I knew there was no way I was going get her out of there without exposing myself as a time traveler.

What was Cindy to Santino? The rules of time were that everyone would only remember the timeline they were currently in. Cindy was an exception, she was already exposed to time jumping therefore she held both memories of the original timeline and the changed one. It took her some time for her memories of Santino to kick in but she eventually remembered.

From what she told me, he deemed her special from the moment he got a taste of her blood. Which was concerning to say out loud…She wasn’t treated like livestock like the other humans. She bonded with him, they were forming a sort of friendship. I was just glad that she wasn’t suffering from my selfishness.

From her time spent with Santino, Cindy had plenty of intel on how things came to be. When we jumped back in time, her first suggestion was for us to meet up with Santino. She was confident that he would be able to help us achieve what we needed to achieve.

It was crazy how easily he accepted our plan when we proved that we could skip through time and worlds.

Santino wasn’t a bad guy. At that point and time, he was still confused as to what his objective for life was. That was the reason why his loyalty was only to himself. He was a bit of a rouge although he formally worked for the opposition. Everybody had a bit of a traumatic past in their world. He was still suffering psychologically. He seemed fine and almost happy and playful but he was probably the most sadistic. That’s why it was dangerous to explain everything to him. He couldn’t know of Veéta, he was still the very person that could mess her up even more. Although he prided himself in treating those weaker than him with kindness, he still had a lot of innocent blood on his hands. He was impatient and had a certain view of life that could cause misunderstandings with others.

We couldn’t fully trust his word but we needed him nonetheless.

As our first mission directly correlating to Veéta, we were standing on the rooftop of her neighbour. We were such a distance away from the window of her room that we could not see her with the naked eye. Cindy and I were wearing glasses that allowed us to see things that were a great distance away. Don’t ask what prescription we got.
