Santino
The view from above was enticing. I stood at the edge of the roof of the church. The cross of the tower behind me. I could see a few people notice me high up and do a double-check to make sure they weren't seeing things. I was not that high up. I only could see as far as the entrance of the church, past the pavement beside the church and the roof of the first few houses across the street.
The irony of my actions didn't cease to amuse me.
Why would I be afraid of a church? What would I have to be afraid of? The fake holy water? The fake pastors? The fake so-called servants of God? Those people didn't understand the fuller picture of life. It wasn't their fault that they couldn't commit to The Word 100%. It also played to their advantage. If they pretended to play nice for a while, things would be in their favour.
Being human would be a great plot to a nightmare. They died alarmingly easily. Everything around them could potentially kill them. It amazed me to see them live as long as they did.
I was practically a newborn to my kind. Twenty-something to humans represented a fruitful age but to us, I was barely anything. I would have been barely anything if I wasn't born...special. I had the abilities of a few well-aged powerful vampires. It was the only thing my family gifted me before their deaths. The very people who killed them crowned me their Lord. Not that they had a choice, power spoke louder than anything to Vampires. I was the loudest. The very thing they were trying to kill off in my family was ruling them.
I chuckled at the recollection.
How could I serve them rightfully when I hated them? My loyalties stood firmly with myself. It was easier that way. Nobody could use or betray me. It was a lonely life. A friend would be appreciated.
Bzzz.
Right at the thought, my phone vibrated. I pulled it out of my pocket before glancing at the screen to see the notification of the message. It was from Cindy.
- Your ice cream awaits you!
I let out another chuckle before putting the phone back in my pocket.
Perhaps I had found one.

The heat of the day was unfelt in the cool environment of the Ice-cream shop. I sat in a booth located right beside the glass view of the shop. I opted to savour my chocolate milkshake as opposed to the bright-eyed sugar greedy girl before me. It was an odd occasion. Cindy had detached herself from Prince and called me to talk without him. She was barely getting any words in between the hungry scooping of ice cream to be shoved in her mouth.
I took a moment to give her eyes that showed that I was halfway between amused and concerned. Her sugar intake levels were to be rivaled. One would think she would confidently live forever.
Cindy, I could consider a friend. The word friend brought a smile to my face. I chuckled to myself. Who thought I would be one to make a friend? The life I lived brought unavoidable loneness. Amid my self-pity, a girl comes in a flash of light claiming to be my best friend. She knew things about me all too well. I had no reason not to believe in the alternate universe that she presented.
Not that I needed much convincing. I was a good boy, I did what I was told to do. At times I did it in a way that upheld my morals. In the end, if I had to choose between the tasks placed on me and my peace of mind, I'd choose myself. I had no problem with the time-travelers as of yet. For the most part, I was providing inside information.
Even with my nature of agreeableness, it was a little out of my caliber to work with the time travelers like that. Perhaps I got a little excited to hear the word friend. The girl before me knew all too well what my weak point was.
