"In your eyes..."

Katie
Who was I? What kind of life was I living?
In my profession, you had to be in the graces of gods at all times. My family is a long bloodline of humans who pledged their lives to serve the Petrova descendancy. It was an ill fate. Not a moment in my life did I feel at ease. My boss was supposed to be the 'nice' one of the family. It made me wonder how monstrous they could get.
I was treated beneath my ranking, as my boss didn't fail to remind me that each second I was breathing was to her will. It was expected. She barely treated her niece like family.
What was I doing with my life?
I asked that question as if I had much choice in my situation. I sat alone in the dark on a cold park bench. I was staring ahead at the empty scene of grass and trees without much care. I felt an emptiness and cold that was unthinkable.
I had no choice but to be out. My boss's boyfriend pitched up. I didn't have room to sleep in the hotel we were staying in. I took the floor or the couch if I 'behaved'. Although she didn't seem it, there was someone my boss loved. When he was around things would get...
Freaky.
It was simply best that I wasn't present for both parties.
The cold air of the night breezed past me. A gentle breeze turned in a gush of wind in a few seconds. I looked at the trees being tossed around by the wind. As if it was an echo in the wind, a chuckle carried through. The situation seemed vaguely familiar.
Veéta.
She told me the same thing happened the night her father lost control.
The thought sent a chill down my spine as I leaned forward and turned to check if there was anything there. When I turned to check my right, I froze in place as I saw a figure casually seated beside me with his legs stretched out.
Because of my pledge, my family had a few gifts that enabled us to keep up with the supernaturals. I could instantly sense that the guy was a vampire, a powerful one at that. He had dark ginger curls flying in the wind carelessly. His eyes were curious, he looked dangerously charming. He stopped aging young, it seemed as if he was a few years younger than I was. He was dressed well, in all dark. I wasn't particularly scared, he didn't give me that vibe.
''Katie.'' He spoke to me as he gave me a genuine smile. I leaned back up to put my back against the bench. The wind was dying down and my nerves were warning me of danger. Even if he didn't scare me, it didn't mean I had to put my guard down.
''Who are you?'' I questioned as I shifted to face him. I gave him a look of indifference.
''Lord Santino but you can call me Lord.'' He told me in a joking tone as his smile widened at me. I hated the fact that my body instantly relaxed at his words.
''My blood doesn't taste good. I'm a servant of the Petrova family.'' I told him as I kept my expression straight. It was one of the benefits of being a servant. Your blood was turned bitter. It was great protection against monsters.
''I know.'' He told me as he tilted his head at me. His smile turned curious to match his eyes. His gaze was unfaltering.
''What do you want from me?'' I opted to question.
''I've been told that I tend to drift from the topic so I'll try and make this quick. My boss and your boss are making a deal as we speak. A truce to ally. A new world is going to be created, it won't be pleasant for humans. I came to offer to turn you into a Vampire.'' He spoke to me kindly as if his words were supposed to be assuring.
I stared at him wordlessly as my face turned into disgust. I hated my life but I would hate it more if I became what was making me suffer. Not to mention that new bloods were just bloodthirsty vessels of what they used to be.
''Was that part of their agreement?'' I questioned Santino. At that moment, I already knew how the situation was going to end. I looked at him with a sort of sadness.
''My boss would prefer it if the team was purely supernatural.'' He explained to me with a simple nod. I closed my eyes for a moment and leaned my head back. There was nothing to live on for. Either way, there was no happy ending.
''No.'' I spoke out as I kept my eyes closed. Santino didn't respond to my words. There was a moment of silence between us. I was expecting something to happen but it was just simple silence.
I opened my eyes to face Santino. He was staring at me in a certain way. My heart slowly thumped in my heart at my bold decision. I gave him a simple smile. When I glanced up beside Santino, there was a tall slender guy with dark hair in a dark robe watching us carefully. His composure was kept as if he was waiting for an order. He glanced at me for a moment before shifting away from his gaze quickly.
"As much as I made it sound as if you have a choice...you don't." Santino spoke to me in a concerned tone. He glanced at me with such great concern, it made my heart skip a beat. It almost made me feel guilty.
He had a gift.
"It's more of a...join us or die type situation." He continued to explain to me. I didn't respond to his words, I merely kept my simple smile.
"Come on, work with me here, Katie, I don't want you to die. Do you want her to die Kendrick?" Santino questioned the guy behind him as he turned to give a pleading stare. Kendrick's stoic gaze turned to meet mine. He shook his head in the slightest.
"What kind of life would I be living as a soulless, cold-blooded maggot?'' I questioned them as I turned my expression serious. It would be a bummer to die before thirty but I didn't want to live forever either, not like that.
''Never heard maggot before.'' I could hear Kendrick whisper to himself as he gave me a stoic gaze.
"First of all...ouch. Secondly, good point, I forget new bloods don't get to keep their soul or humanity." Santino spoke out as he gave me a slow nod.
"My venom is special, though, you can keep your soul. How does that?'' Santino spoke to me with a bright smile as he offered to me. My expression turned to disgust much like before.
''That's worse.'' I told him, consciously knowing that I was a monster was worse. How did the options manage to get worse?
"I hate this job. Kendrick....she's all yours." Santino whispered his first words before turning and calling out to the guy behind him. Santino's eyes followed Kendrick as he slowly moved to be standing in front of me.
I looked up at him. He bent down and grabbed my wrist as he pulled me up. He was looking down at me with a small smile. His smell was my only focus. It was sweet and making me dizzy. I closed my eyes once again.
"Please don't get blood on my shoes this time. These human sneakers don't get rid of it easy." Santino voiced out from the bench.
''Very well.'' Kendrick spoke out simply. In a second, I felt myself being hoisted up and then we were breezing through the air. It lasted a couple of second before were came to a halt. He put me down carefully but kept his arms at each side of my arms.
I opened my eyes slowly to turn p to meet his dark ones. We were surrounded by nothing but the jungle vegetation. I concluded it a great spot to ditch a dead body. Right in the middle of the jungle.
Kendrick carefully showed his fangs to me as he opened his mouth. His eyes sparked with a red glow. Crazy enough, that sight wasn't the worse to die too. He wasn't ugly, shame.
''Goodbye.'' He spoke to me before lunging for my neck.
