TW: Casual homophobia (the use of "gay" as a descriptor for bad/unwanted things)

3rd Person POV:

Trrring! Trrring! Trrring!

The school bell rings as the students walk to their classes.

Among the crowd, there are two students in an animated discussion with each other. The taller one is named Remus Lupin while the short one is Sirius Black.

These two have been best friends since they were 10 (which was 7 years ago). One is hardly ever seen without the other.

Remus and Sirius are chatting excitedly about the new season of their favourite show when they hear a student behind them say, "Argh I hate maths, it's so gay."

Both of them stop in their tracks for just a moment, registering what they just heard.

Sirius and Remus live in a country where being a part of the LGBTQ+ community is illegal. This results in the majority of the people being homophobic, with comments like the one the student said being very common. And the worst part about it is that they are not able to do anything about it.

Neither Remus nor Sirius like it but they can't do anything about it as they aren't sure what the other thinks about the LGBTQ+ community and don't want to risk losing their best friend.

Both of them make their way to their Biology class in silence, conversation stopped as they are lost in thought, anger, and sadness.

As Remus was writing in his book about the process of translocation, he decided that he had to tell Sirius about himself. He couldn't hide it anymore, it felt like he was suffocating by not being fully open about himself to the person he loves the most.

"Hey Padfoot," Remus whispers to Sirius in order to not be caught by the teacher, "Wanna come over to my house after school? We could go over these notes together cause I'm not understanding a thing right now."

"Yeah sure, we could go over notes or we could play Mario Kart," Sirius replies with a grin.

"I don't know what you are insinuating. We will only study and do absolutely nothing else," Remus says with a smile, both the students having to stifle laughter.

Once the school day is over, the best friends make their way to Remus' house and go up the stairs to his room. His parents aren't home right now and Remus is grateful for that because he hasn't told them what he is about to tell Sirius.

"I'll get some snacks from the kitchen, make yourself comfortable," Remus says and heads back down.

As soon as he leaves the room, Sirius starts thinking about ways to come clean to Remus. Sirius plans on telling Remus today about Sirius' link to the LGBTQ+ community. However, Sirius doesn't have nearly enough time because within a minute, Remus is back with drinks and chips.

They set up the controller and decide to play Mario Kart, with Sirius in the lead as usual. Once they finish the first game, Remus takes a deep breath and says, "Siri, I have um....something to tell you."

Sirius puts down the controller and says, "Go on Rem."

"Ok so, for a while now, I have known that I am not straight, but I also know I'm not gay. I researched a bit and came to the conclusion that I am Pansexual, which means I can be attracted to anyone regardless of gender."

Remus says this while looking Sirius straight in the eye and he doesn't know where he is getting this courage from.

Everything is quiet for a minute.

Then Sirius smiles and says, "I accept you Rem, this doesn't change a thing."

Relief floods Remus and the only thing he can think of is hugging Sirius. So he does.

"Thank you, thank you! Oh I was so terrified of losing you," Remus admits, pulling away from the hug.

"You never have to worry about that. I actually er... have something to tell you too."

"Yeah?"

"Well, I- From when I was a child, I always left weird in my skin. Like the title of "son" didn't fit me and being considered a boy was intolerable. But I don't feel like a girl either, I just feel like...in-between. I thought I was going crazy but it turns out its completely normal and I realized that I'm non-binary. My pronouns are they/them."

Remus' face lights up as he hugs them again. "Siri, I'm so glad you could tell me and I'm sorry for unknowingly misgendering you for so long."

Sirius smiles and hugs him back. "No worries Rem."

"Oh, do you want to go by a different name?"

"I thought about it but Sirius is the best for me."

"Even though you are never serious."

"Hey!", Sirius exclaims as they both burst out laughing. Sirius feels light, like a burden has lifted off their shoulders because they were lugging this around for so long.

"I can't believe we both are basically outlaws," Remus comments.

"I know right, who would have though Remus Lupin would break a law," Sirius says with a grin.

"Oh shut up!," Remus exclaims, throwing a pillow at their face which results in an epic pillow fight with Mario Kart music in the background.

The two friends continue playing and chatting until the night, getting absolutely no work done (not that either of them cared).

Who knows what will happen in the future? Maybe Sirius will tell Remus about their attraction to him. Maybe they will start dating. Maybe they will kiss. Maybe they will go to university together.

Maybe Remus will propose to Sirius when they are both 27. Maybe they will be husbands when they are 28. Maybe they will have adopted two children when they are 29. Maybe they will always be madly in love.

No one knows what will happen, but what is certain is that Remus and Sirius are always partners in (literal) crime.

A/N: Hello! This one was my idea based on sort-of real life. Hope you guys liked it. I have 5 more drafts to write after this 😅

Also, I have made a Fiverr!

You can ask me to write any creative writing piece (poem, short story, or article) with your prompts/information and I will do my best.

Please do not feel pressured to do this and I will still keep updating my books here.

Here is the link if you want to take a look: https://www.fiverr.com/s2/c22dc97ace (the link is also on a message on my profile).

Thank you for giving me the confidence to do this in the first place.
