Chapter 12

I open my eyes, sweating and panting.

I roam my eyes around my huge bedroom to see some unwanted guests, but I'm all alone.

Tears escape from my eyes, but I quickly wipe them away.

It was a dream? But it felt real.

I looked for my cellphone and dialed Paul's number, but to my dismay, he's not answering my calls.

Sinuklay ko ang buhok ko at bumaba sa kama.

Kumunot ang noo ko dahil parang ang sakit ng katawan ko.

I look down at my wrist. Medyo mapula pa ang mga iyon.

Pumasok ako sa banyo at hinubad lahat ng suot ko. Tumapat ako sa shower at hinayaan na balutin ng malamig na tubig ang buong katawan ko.

Nagtagal ako ng ilan pang minuto dahil nag iisip ako. Iniisip ko yung kagabi.

Nang matapos ako. Nagpunas ako at nagsuot ng robe.

Tumapat ako sa salamin at hinawi ng bahagya ang buhok ko.

Naningkit ang mata ko at mas lumapit pa ng kaunti para makita kung hindi ba ako pinaglalaruan ng mata ko.

There were two small black dots on the side of my neck, on just the upper part of my collarbone.

What the!

Mabilis akong lumabas ng banyo at nagtungo sa walk in closet ko.

Naghanap ako ng damit at nag ayos ng sarili bago ako lumabas.

She's not in my room. Maybe she left after what happened last night.

But how did I manage to stay alive? She drank from me.

Tumalima ako pababa at nagmamadali na pumunta ng dining area.

Para naman akong tinakasan ng kaluluwa ng makita ko ang babaeng nanduon. Inaasikaso ng mga kasambahay ko.

Prenteng nakaupo at masayang nakamasid sa mga nasa paligid nya.

"Mara"- I called sternly.

Her gaze went my way. She's not surprised at all, even though I know she could feel that I'm going mad right now.

"Hi Evie."- she said in a casual way.

"Good morning hija. Halika na kumain na kayo nitong kaibigan mo."- yaya ni Nanay Gloria.

Tahimik na sumunod ako at naupo sa kabisera.

I want to talk to Mara and ask her many things, but I'll just save that for later.

"Maiwan muna namin kayo."

"Don't!"- I blurted out to them.

Nagkatingin pa sila dahil medyo mataas ang tono ng boses ko.

"They have somewhere else to go, Evie. Let them leave."- Mara butted in.

I swallowed hard and shot her a death glare.

"You guys can leave."- she said, ignoring my stares.

Nagbigay galang muna ang mga ito bago kami iniwan. I saw Nanay Gloria's hesitant look, but I just nodded my head.

Tahimik kaming dalawa. Kumain na lamang ako at hindi pinansin ang presensya nya. I need to gain strength. Nanghihina pa din kasi ako at pakiramdam ko kapag hindi pa ako kumain at nagpainit sa labas ay baka bumagsak na naman ako at makatulog.

"I know you have a lot of questions, Evie."- she started, but I ignored her. "You can ask me."- dagdag pa nya at ngumisi.

"Can't you see I'm eating? And why are you still here?"- salubong ang kilay na sabi ko.

She should have left already.

"I'm not done with you."

Nabitin sa ere ang pagsubo ko sana. Binaba ko ang tinidor at mataman na sinalubong ang tingin nya.

"Bakit? Dahil may dugo pa sa katawan ko? Hindi ka pa satisfied sa nainom mo kagabi?"- sarkastikong sabi ko at tumayo . I drink my water first before storming out of the dining area.

I'm fuming mad. A part of me was afraid, but I just couldn't be quiet.

I must protect my life, no matter what.

I end up in front of the garden. I cross my arms and watch the rising sun, which is adding additional beauty to the surroundings.

"Evie"- I heard her voice just a few meters away from me.

I glance over my shoulder. She's standing in the doorway.

"Still allergic to the sun?"- I asked with a smirk.

Sana maglaho na lang sya.

"Don't wish for it. I'm still figuring out what your blood cured in myself."

"Cured? What are you talking about?"- This time I face her and unfold my arms.

"I bit you not because I wanted to, but because you're the cure."

"Are you kidding me? My parents gave me life to be a normal person, not a vampire's cure to whatever sickness you have! Your family is a bunch of psychos, I guess."- I said through gritted teeth.

I saw how her eyes turned red. Her jaw clenched at the same time she balled her fist on her side.

Napalunok ako pero hindi ako umalis sa pwesto ko.

Nasa liwanag ako at kampante ako na hindi nya ako masasaktan dahil sensitive ang balat ng katulad nya sa araw.

"We're not psychos. I'm trying my best here to have a proper conversation with you. Don't provoke me by insulting my whole clan."- she sternly said while glaring at me with her blazing red eyes.

I know what I said was below the belt, but I just can't help it. I'm mad at what she did to me.

I thought we were on good terms now that she's my friend, but I guess I'm wrong.

Vampires were all deceivers. They are a soulless creature, or monster, rather. A part of the dark side.

Her snarling brought me back to sanity.

"Stop insulting us. I will freakin' kill you!"

Sa isang iglap nasa harapan ko na sya at hawak ako sa leeg.

I see that no one is around. I can't ask for help.

Fudge! Where are they?!

I saw her smirk at my reaction. Her nails dig into my skin on the side of my neck.

Nagtaka ako dahil sa unti unti nyang pagbitaw sa akin na parang may na realized sya sa mga oras na yon. Napahawak ako sa leeg ko habang nakatingin sa kanya.

She's staring at her hands; she even touches her face and moves her whole body.

"I'm still alive?"

Ngayon ko lang din napansin na nakasakto sa pwesto namin ang sinag ng araw.

"Yes, you are."- I replied after a minute of being shocked as well.

Hindi na sya nausok. Hindi na sya nasusunog.

How?!

Her face turned back to normal. Nawala na ang pagpula ng mata nya at ang paghaba ng pangil nya. Pero nanatili ang maputla nyang kulay na kulang nalang ay pagkamalan na patay sa sobrang putla ng balat nya.

She looked back at me. There's no trace of emotion in her eyes. But I know she has a lot on her mind.

"We need a proper discussion with regards to this scenario, Evie. You're smart, and I know that you already figured out why I didn't vanish after being hit by a sunray."
