Chapter 24

"Evie, wake up; you don't want to miss your anticipated anniversary with your boyfriend, right?"

I slowly opened my eyes when I heard that familiar voice, as if it were echoing inside my head.

A striking light from the bulb assaulted my eyes; that's why I blink many times before everything goes clear.

"Evie?! Oh, thank God, you're awake now, honey!"

It was Paul who kissed my head and gently hugged me.

"I'm just going to call your doctor, okay? Wait me here."

Hindi naman na ako nakaimik dahil nagmadali na syang tumakbo palabas.

I look around to see the white walls surrounding me.

I'm in a hospital.

I grunted as I slowly touched my lower abdomen. I felt a bandage there.

Napalingon ako sa pinto ng biglang sumarado iyon ng may kalakasan.

I saw Mara standing there, crossing her arms. She's wearing her signature black attire, emphasizing her paleness and slim figure.

She titled her head and chuckled afterwards. Is she laughing at me?

Kahit nanghihina ay pinilit ko na maupo at sumandal.

"W-why are you here?"

"I'm just checking if you're still alive because you've been sleeping for almost four days."

Ganun katagal?! 

"Hep! Don't ever think about it. Your boyfriend will be here in a minute. You don't want him to worry about you, right? So don't pull it."

Napansin nya siguro ang akma kong pagtanggal sa nakakabit sa akin.

Pumikit nalang ako at bumuntong hininga.
I heard her footsteps getting near.

Sumasabay din ang kulog at kidlat mula sa labas.

"I appeared late. Masakit ba?"- tukoy nya sa sugat ko.

"Ikaw kaya barilin ko tapos tanungin kita kung masakit."- masungit na bira ko sa kanya.

Ngumisi naman sya at sinuklay ang buhok nya.

"I told you to be careful, didn't I?"- she muttered.

"I'm a doctor; of course it's my job to take care of my patient, even if it means I will get hurt."- I replied, leaning comfortably on the bed.

Hindi naman sya umimik pero umatras naman sya palayo, palapit sa pinto at pinihit iyon pabukas.

"He's here."- nakangiti nyang bigkas at bigla nalang naglaho.

Hindi kalaunan ay pumasok na si Paul kasama ang doctor na sinasabi nya.

Mabuti nalang daw ay hindi natamaan ang internal organs ko at madali lang nakuha ang bala kahit pa medyo nabawasan ako ng dugo.

"You should quit your job."- sabi nya nuong kami nalang dalawa ulit sa loob.

"Paul alam mong hindi ko kaya. I grew up loving it."

"But honey.. You're being in danger.  What's more on the coming days? Baka mas malala pa mangyari sayo"

"Hon--"

He honey.. You're in danger. What's more in the coming days? Baka mas malala pa mangyari sayo"

"Hon--"

He cut me off by holding both of my hands and kissing the back of them.

"I love you so much. I can't lose you."- he said, full of sincerity.
