Chapter 29

Staring at the coffin in front of me I felt nothing but anger and pain.

I never expected myself to wear something black after our supposedly Happy Anniversary. And I never expected that our special day will be his last day.

Our anniversary will never be the same in my eyes. It will always make me remember that he died that night.

Holding a white stem of rose I force myself to step forward. All of the people around me which are his family, relatives and his friends were already done throwing theirs on his coffin.

Hindi na nakapunta ang mga kakilala kong Doctor sa hospital dahil busy sila. Pero nakiramay naman sila nuong mga nakaraan na araw.

I stop and look down on his coffin as I let the rose fall.

I felt a hand on my left shoulder, and when I looked, his mother's face with a crying face came into view.

She hugged me without a word, and I couldn't help but just close my eyes as I melted in her arms.

"I know it's hurt, my dear, but I'm sure he will always be there to look upon us, she whispered to me.

"I love him; he said he was coming home, but he left. He's my only friend and a lover I can rely on, but I'm all alone now."

"You can still visit us if you want. I still consider you my child because my sons love you so much."

I felt her caress my back, and her other children went to us to give me a comforting hug.

I missed a family hug, which is why I just savored the moment until everyone left after saying their deepest condolences.

I took one last glance at his tomb as I wiped my tears away.

"I will find the one who did this to you. And I will haunt them one by one."

I am not a huntress because I don't want to be like my family, but those monsters deserve to die. They have no place in this world.

"Doctor Corpuz, are you being serious? I know you're still mourning, but please don't leave us. Your patient needs you. This hospital needs you. We can't lose such a good doctor like you."

"I'm sorry, Doc, but I made up my mind. It's a hard decision for me because I already love my job in here, but I need to find myself. I need to forget, and I know that I can't work properly if I have this burden in my mind and heart. Don't worry, Doc, I will still go to work today to say goodbye with everyone."

Tumayo na ako at inayos ang coat ko. Nagbigay galang ako sa Chief Doctor ng hospital.

Ayaw ko din gawin to pero para kay Paul gagawin ko. Matagal na nyang sinasabi na mag resign na ako pero hindi ako nakinig.

Nakakatawa lang na nakakainis dahil kung kailan wala na sya at hindi na nya ako nakikita saka ko pa sya sinunod.

"Thank you for everything, sir." - Pormal na sabi ko bago tuluyan na tumalikod at lumabas ng opisina nya.

Last night I wrote my resignation letter, and this will be my last day here. I can't believe that it will be my last day walking down this white hallway. My last day of hearing everyone.

Nag focus ako sa trabaho. Halos lahat ng naging pasyente ko ay pinuntahan ko at nagkaroon kami ng konting session.

"You're leaving?"- tanong ni Esme.

Hindi ko sya hawak pero nakiusap ako sa Doctor na naka schedule sa kanya kung pwedeng ako nalang muna ang mag proxy.

"Yeah. It's a sudden decision, but it's for my own good." - I replied, smiling at her.

"Mauunahan mo pa pala akong umalis"- sabi nya at napatawa.

"Maybe we could have some time to grab some coffee once you're out of here."

She smiled back at me as she extended her hand for a handshake.

"I'm looking forward to it. Good luck on another journey you're planning to take, Dr. Evie."

After 2 days.

Lulan ng aking kotse ay tinatahak ko ang daan papuntang ancestral house namin.

Binenta ko na dati kong bahay. Bahay na sabi ni Mara na hindi ako ligtas. Stand by naman yung sa condo ko dahil may uutusan pa ako para maghakot ng mga gamit ko.

The guard opened the gate for me. And as I make my way in front of the mansion, I can see everyone running around to welcome me.

Namataan ko kaagad si Nanay Gloria pagkababa ko at nanduon din ang apo nya.

Why are they smiling?

"Welcome back, Señorita"!"- sabay sabay na sabi nila.

Nakabawi din naman ako sa gulat at ngumiti na lamang ng tipid sa kanila.

Nanay Gloria approach me with a smile on her face.

Sabay na kaming pumasok sa loob.

"Masaya ako na dito ka na ulit mananatili. Bakit nga pala nagbago ang isip mo? Paano ang trabaho mo?"

"It's a long story 'nay. Anyway, prepare the master's bedroom for me."

Napansin ko na nagulat sya sa sinabi ko.

"Ah d-diba sabi mo nuon na wag iyon bubuksan?"- alanganin na sabi nya.

"Well, people change. Pupunta muna po ako ng opisina."

Binigyan ko si nanay ng isang tipid na ngiti bago tuluyan na tumalikod at nagpunta sa kabilang hallway patungo sa opisina.

Pagkapasok ko ay dumiretso ako sa may book shelf at hinawi ang ibang libro. Nakita ko duon ang pabilog na may naka ukit na letter H.

Bata pa ako nuong aksidente kong nakita na pinihit ito ng lolo ko. Hindi ko alam kung anong nasa likod ng book shelf na ito. Pero walang nakakaalam dito pwera sa mga matatanda na nabuhay sa bahay na ito nuon.

Bumuntong hininga ako bago ko ito naisipan na pihitin.

Napaatras ako nang umikot iyon at hindi kalaunan ay umatras ang book shelf na para bang hinigop iyon papasok at biglang nahati sa dalawa. Tumambad sa akin ang madilim na paligid.

Humakbang ako patungo dito at kinapa ang switch. Binuhay ko ang ilaw at may nakita akong hagdan pababa.

So all this time we have had an underground in here?

Medyo may agiw agiw na kaya todo iwas nalang ako habang pababa ako. Tumutunog na din ang kahoy ng hagdan kapag naaapakan and it's creating a creepy sound.

Nang tuluyan akong makababa ay  nagulat ako sa tumambad sa aking harapan.

Different sharp things were displayed on the wall.

Different kinds of knives were aligned properly; some are swords, a bow and arrows, ropes, and a sharp wooden cross stick.

Napakadami at halos lahat ay inaagiw na.

"What the heck. Are these the things they used when they were hunting before?" - I muttered under my breath.

Mabilis akong umalis duon at muling binalik sa normal ang lahat.

I will clean them one of these days. But for now, I need to deal with something else.

Sa pag aayos ko ng papel sa mahogany table ay hindi ko sinasadya na matabig ang bag ko.

Bukas pala yon kaya naman nagkalat sa sahig ang laman nuon.

I bent down on my knees to pick it up, but I stopped on my track when I saw my name plate.

Kinuyom ko ang kamay ko at tumayo. Lumapit ako sa trash bin at hinulog iyon.

From now on, I will no longer be this so-called doctor.

I heard a knock on the door.

"Seorita, naayos na po namin ang kwarto nyo. Nakahanda na din po ang pagkain nyo."

"I will follow." - I replied as I took one last glance at the trash bin.
