The next morning Bridget and I got up and went down for our morning coffee only to find everyone in the house already up.
“What are you doing up?” I asked our kids.
“Keely called and wanted me to come over,” Kenzie said as she continued to text on her phone.
“Well, I don’t see why that would be a problem. Does your dad need to take you over there or is someone coming to get you?” Bridget asked.
“Brittany is coming to get me,” Kenzie said as Bridget immediately perked up.
Everyone’s schedules have been so crazy since we got home from Kentucky that the only time Bridget had seen Brit was that short amount of time in the courtroom during my testimony. I knew the girls would be here for a while and figured it would be the perfect time to take the boys out for some father-son time.
“How about I let you girls visit and I’ll take the boys out for a while?” I proposed to Bridget.
“That will be great,” Bridget smiled as we sat at the kitchen table with our coffee.
It wasn’t even thirty minutes later when Brit, Keely, and Kendall arrived. Brit and Bridget went to the kitchen and started chatting while the girls went up to Kenzie’s room.
“We’re going to head out. We’ll be back by lunch,” I told Bridget while getting coats on the boys.
“Alright. Ya’ll be careful,” Bridget told me as I walked over to her.
“As always,” I told her before leaning down and kissing her lightly, “Love you.”
“Love you too,” Bridget said as I walked out the door.
I took Bo and Tate out to the farm to and we went riding on the Gator. We had a good time, but it was cold and it was getting time for lunch. When we walked through the door Bridget was sitting, but sound asleep on the couch with the twins asleep in her lap. I don’t think anything in the world could have been more beautiful. I didn’t want to wake her up, but I knew if I didn’t then she won’t sleep tonight and tomorrow we have to be at the courthouse for Brad Bennett’s sentencing.
“Bridget,” I said softly as I picked up Keegan and Kinley, “Wake up, baby.”
“What time is it?” Bridget asked.
“It’s one,” I told her.
“Shit! The last time I looked down up it was ten. I slept for two hours,” Bridget exclaimed.
“It’s okay,” I told her, “Where’s everyone at?”
“They went to the store,” Bridget told me, “Ya’ll must be starving. I’ll make you something to eat.”
“It’s okay. I can fix us a sandwich or something real quick,” I told her.
“Are you sure?” Bridget asked me.
“I’m sure,” I answer, “I’m going to lay the twins down and I’ll meet you in the kitchen. The boys want to tell you all about our morning.”
I laid the twins down in their beds in our room and came back downstairs. Bridget had the boys sitting on the counter with all the fixings for a sandwich surrounding them. I walked in and took over. Bridget helped the boys down and they sat at the table. Bo and Tate dug into their sandwiches like they hadn’t ate in days, but Bridget didn’t want anything.
“Bridget you need to eat,” I voiced my concern.
“I’m fine. I’ll eat when I’m hungry,” she informed me.
