It’s been a crazy summer so far. Luke’s tour is in full swing and now that the twins are older we have all been able to fly out to be with him for a few days at a time. I told him that with everything the kids have going on I might not be able to make it out for his birthday. What he doesn’t know is that I have worked everything thing out and we are all on our way to Lexington to see him for his birthday. When I talked to him first thing this morning he seemed so depressed that none of us would be together for his birthday that I almost told him. It took everything I had not to, but now we are pulling up next to his bus and I’m going to go in to surprise him.
“Hey Kerri! Is Luke on the bus?” I asked in a cheerful mood as I got out of the Escalade.
“Yeah. You got here at the perfect time. I just got him back in there about fifteen minutes ago,” Kerri informed me.
“Thanks,” I said as I walked towards the bus.
“You’re welcome, Bridget. You know I’m more than happy to keep these kind of secrets from Luke,” Kerri laughed.
I finished the walk to the bus and stopped just before I walked into the door. I was so excited I was letting the humid, Kentucky heat get to me. I caught my breath and opened the door.
“What the fuck?” I screamed with instant tears streaming down my face as I saw my worst nightmare coming true, Luke was kissing another woman.
“It’s not what you think!” Luke told me as he shoved her away.
“I don’t care! Have these!” I shouted taking both my wedding band and engagement rings off and sitting them on the table before walking out the door.
“Bridge, please don’t leave! Let me explain!” Luke shouted at me while I walked towards the Escalade and he follows me.
“Let the kids see their dad. When I get back we are leaving,” I told Tia as I got into the Escalade completely ignoring Luke.
I sat there for a moment, but as Luke started to get closer I put it in reverse and turned around. Before I pulled away I looked back and Luke was screaming at Kerri. I have no clue what he was saying, but right now I don’t really care. I never in my life thought Luke would ever cheat on me. I always thought he was different. He was the one man other than my dad that I could trust. I guess I was wrong. Now we have five kids and it’s going to be a huge mess. Thankfully Jen still lived in Lexington. I drove passed Rupp Arena and swung into Starbucks right off Broadway.
“Welcome to Starbucks! What can I get you today?” the barista asked me in the drive thru.
“Venti Hazelnut Cappuccino, please. That will be all,” I told her. I pulled on up before she ever said the price. I paid for my drink and headed to Jen’s.
I knocked on the door and Jen’ roommate, Jamie answered, “Hey! What’s wrong?” I didn’t say a word as my sister’s best friend pulled me into her arms making sure to not spill my drink, “Jen, Bridget’s here!” Jamie yelled.
“Bridget, what’s wrong?” Jen asked as I fell into my sister’s arms.
“I caught Luke kissing another woman,” I cried and went on to explain the whole story.
“This can’t be true,” Jen said, “Did you talk to him?”
“No. What’s to explain?” I asked.
“Where are the kids?” Jen asked me.
“With Tia seeing their dad before we leave. I don’t know where we are going, but we aren’t staying here. I don’t want to see him ever again,” I answered my sister.
