It’s the end of April and I have somehow managed to get a full week off to go home. Bridget has been all over me to come home, if even for a day, but I just haven’t been able to make it happen until now. She’s been busting her ass getting the new house decorated, with the help of an interior decorator, and taking care of the kids, all while packing everything for the move. Baseball and softball seasons have started and this year Tate is playing too, so Bridget is constantly on the go. As of right now, Bridget has no clue I’m coming home. Kerri reworked some appearances and such over the past few days so I could come home, but we made the decision to keep it from Bridget. I wanted this to be a surprise, since it had been almost two months since we had physically seen each other. I walked through the door and it was chaos. There were people from the moving company we hired scattered throughout the kitchen and living room, who looked up as I entered. I dropped my duffle next to the door and zigzagged through the boxes that were everywhere, trying to ignore the stares I was getting. The twins weren’t in the living room, but Bo and Tate were. They ran up to me and gave me big hugs.
“Where is your Momma?” I asked the boys.
“Upstairs,” Tate said as started towards the staircase.
“Boys, go get the toys up out of the hallway. Now,” Bridget demanded of our boys before she looked up.
The moment our eyes locked the look of surprise on Bridget’s face was everything I dreamed it would be. She took off in a dead run towards me, jumping at the last minute into my arms, wrapping her legs around my waist, and planting her lips upon mine in a deep, passionate kiss.
“How? Why? How?” Bridget questioned in shock as she broke our kiss.
“I just made it happen. I couldn’t let you do all of this by yourself,” I told my wife as I refused to let her go, pulling her into a kiss yet again.
“Oh, how I’ve missed you. I could kiss you all day,” Bridget told me as she kissed me over and over again.
“I’ve missed you too,” I barely got out between the kisses.
There were no words to be said between us at that moment. Everything that needed to be said was spoken loud and clear through the kisses we shared. Bridget’s arms wrapped around me made everything seem perfect in the world. It was like there was no one else in the room, but me and her.
“Gross!” Kenzie shouted in disgust as she came down the stairs.
“It’s nice to see you too, Kenz,” I said as I sat Bridget back down.
“Why can’t you act like normal parents?” Kenzie asked as she rolled her eyes at us.
“MaKenzie Raye Bryan! Don’t you roll your eyes at us!” Bridget scolded our daughter as Kenzie just walked the other direction.
“What’s up with her?” I asked Bridget.
“I have no clue, but she has been like this pretty much since the adoption was finalized. Right after you left anyways,” Bridget explained to me.
“Well, have to figure that out before I leave,” I told my wife, “What do you want me to do?”
“Help me get our room packed up. I haven’t even begun there. Everything else is pretty much ready to go,” Bridget informed me as she drug me up the stairs into our bedroom.
I thought Bridget was just exaggerating, but boy was I wrong. Everything in our bedroom was just as it always had been. Not a thing was moved or boxed up. How on earth did this happen? This is supposed to be our first night in the new house and we won’t have anything of ours as we don’t get working on this right away.
