Kenzie, Jenna, and Kaya have been outside playing in the snow for hours when I looked out the window to check on them. Kenzie was doing backhand springs through the snow and down the driveway. That girl is going to give her momma a heart attack if she don’t give them to me first.
“Have you heard from Jason?” Bridget asked me.
“No. He should be here anytime now though,” I answered her as I watched her get the boys dressed to go play in the snow.
“You could help me instead of just watching,” Bridget stated.
“Any time I try and help you go all nervous breakdown on me,” I told her.
“Whatever,” Bridget said as she turned her attention back to our sons.
“Don’t whatever me!” I exclaimed as I heard a horn honk from the driveway, “Jason’s here.”
“Go help him and Brit get the girls in and dressed to go outside,” Bridget told me.
“He can do it by himself. They are his kids, not mine,” I said as I looked at Bridget. She just gave me that ‘you didn’t even help with your own kids’ look, “Alright, I’m going.”
“What the hell is Kenzie doing?” Jason asked as he started unloading his truck while Brit and the girls went into the house.
“She’s been doing back and front hand springs since Jenna and Kaya got here. Bridge is going to have a nervous breakdown when she sees her,” I told him.
“Don’t you think it would be a good idea if you get her to stop before Bridget sees? You do have the twins to worry about if Bridge stresses out too bad,” Jason asked.
“Daddy, can we get the four-wheeler out?” Kenzie ran up and asked before I could get back to the house.
“Do you remember what happened the last time you went gallivanting off on the four-wheeler?” I asked her.
“But we are just going to be right here,” Kenzie informed me, “No jumps. I promise.”
“Let me talk to your momma and see what she says,” I told her.
“Momma will never let me. Daddy please,” Kenzie pleaded with a little puppy dog face.
“When Jason and I get back out here you can for a little bit. But not until then,” I give in.
“Thank you! You’re the best. Daddy!” Kenzie exclaimed while throwing her arms around me in a big bear hug before she returned to her friends.
“So, you’re daddy now?” Jason asked me.
“Yeah,” I smiled knowing it melted my heart every time those words came from her mouth.
“That’s been a long time coming,” Jason told me.
“It has. I’ve been attached to that kid since the day she was born,” I told him.
“Are you guys going to stand out in the cold all day or are you coming in the house sometime this year?” Bridget asked in her smartass tone.
“We’re coming,” I said as we walked into the house.
“You don’t have to be a smartass all the time,” Jason said emphasizing all.
“I have no clue what you are talking about! I’m never a smartass!” Bridget laughed.
“Sure you don’t,” I said as I leaned down and kissed my wife.
“I would kill for the relationship you guys have,” Brit informed us while getting dirty looks from Jason.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jason asked.
