It’s less than a week until Christmas and Bridget is taking all of the girls, with the exception of Kinley, on a shopping trip to New York City. It was originally supposed to be a trip for just the two of us, but with everything that has been going on some girl time for all of them will be great and it will give me the opportunity to spend some quality time with the boys. Bridget has been running around the house like a chicken with her head cut off since before dawn. I’ve just laid here in bed letting her think I’m still asleep. Now that she’s finally left the bedroom and I can go back to sleep all I want is a cup of coffee. I gradually get up and work my way down stairs. By the time I reach the stairwell I smell bacon coming from the kitchen.
“Good morning,” Bridget smiled as she kissed me and handed me a cup of coffee.
“Good morning,” I returned as I leaned over and kissed her cheek before joining Jordan, Kris, and Kenzie at the kitchen table.
“Are you sure you will be able to handle everything while I’m gone?” Bridget asked me as she tended to the breakfast she was cooking.
“Yes, Bridge. I’ve got this,” I assured her, “You know it’s not the only time I’ve been left alone with the kids.”
“I know, but this will be the first time that Tia won’t always be here. She’s not here today. Today it’s all on you,” Bridget informed me.
“I know, love. I can handle the boys by myself,” I told her.
“Luke, you’re going to have the twins too. It’s not going to be just the boys,” Bridget stated as she sat a bowl of eggs and plate of bacon down on the table.
“Bridget, I’ll be okay. The kids will be okay,” I assured her once more, “Do you need any help?”
“I got this,” she said as she shook her head at me.
“Momma, do I have to eat? I’m not hungry,” Kenzie asked.
“You need to eat. We’re leaving soon and we won’t be able to eat until this afternoon,” Bridget told our daughter.
“But,” Kenzie began before I cut her off.
“No but’s Kenz. You heard what your Momma said,” I informed her.
Kenzie rolled her eyes at me as Bridget sat biscuits and gravy down on the table, “Don’t roll your eyes at your father.”
“I didn’t,” Kenzie said.
“Don’t lie about it. We both saw it,” I told her.
“Fine,” Kenzie said.
“So, can we eat already?” Jordan asked.
“Not yet. Let me get the potatoes and get the boys in here,” Bridget said as she started scooping the fried potatoes into a bowl.
“I’ll go get the boys,” I said as I got up.
“Okay,” Bridget said as she continued to go about getting breakfast on the table.
I went back up the stairs and the second I started to go into the boys rooms I heard Keegan and Kinley. I went and got them out of their bed and changed. I sat them down and they took off out the door.
“Momma, Momma, Momma,” Keegan and Kinley both yelled as they headed towards our bedroom to look for Bridget.
“Boys, breakfast is ready. Your Momma made biscuits and gravy,” I hollered.
“Momma made biscuits and gravy!” Bo said as he shot up out of bed.
“Yes,” I said as he ran out the bedroom door and straight to the kitchen in only his underwear.
