| CHAPTER ONE |

your love was a unicorn,
but he never believed in unicorns.

so that was both the start
and end of your story.

somethings are only real
if you believe that they are.

"WISH YOU COULD BE THERE WITH ME." you shyly looked up at the bigger boy next to you "when i finally get sent down to save a fallen angel that is." you clarified.

the boy gave you a reassuring smile followed by a gentle squeeze to your hand. he was no more than twelve years old, same age as you, yet he was already taller and his muscled body resembled one of a young adult. "i'm sorry, v. you have to do this one alone. but it's not too late to back down. you can stay here and wait for me."

you drew your brows in confusion. waiting for him? you wanted to do this. you knew you could do this. you just wished he was there to see how capable you really were. "no i just-"

"you don't have to act so strong all the time. it's okay to be scared." he cupped your cheek with one hand and leaned down to kiss your forehead.

"i'm not scared, cam." your voice rose a bit as you defended.

he chuckled, obviously not believing you "sure baby. whatever you say." he ruffled your hair before pivoting on his heel "let's go. training's bout to start."

you balled your fists at your side, letting your nails dig into the soft flesh. it calmed you down. you were in no position to throw tantrums. they already looked down on you and called you names. no need to provoke them. yes, just take a deep breathe and calm down, you reminded yourself.

following a bit further behind camael, you chewed on your lower lip nervously, dreading the training. it had been six years already and you were sure the head trainer hated you for some unknown reason. with him throwing backhanded comments at you, others dared to join in as well. and no one, not your parents, not even camael, ever asked them to stop.

the training was grueling but you weren't the weakling they liked to think you were. you kept up with camael, neck to neck, though he always used his angelic powers to pull ahead.

unfortunately, your powers didn't do much when it came down to physical advantage. or at all, really. camael had raw physical strength while you had healing abilities. but angels were immortal. even the biggest cuts would heal in a few seconds. so to be completely honest, your powers were completely useless.

in fact so useless that no one even remembered you had such powers. they all assumed your breathtaking beauty was your only weapon, just like your goddess ancestor: venus.
