| CHAPTER SIX |

"you can't imagine
the things i'd do
if i put my hands
on you." you said.

"do it." he challenged.

and it was in
that moment that
you fully understood
the depth of what
you were told.
that it's from
the deepest desires
that comes
the deadliest hate.

THE LIBRARY SMELLED OF WOOD AND SMOKE. it contained two levels of floor to ceiling shelves packed with books and spiraling staircases connecting the lower and upper shelves.

maps of different shapes and sizes were framed on the walls though you couldn't read all of them. some seemed to be in a language you'd never seen before.

after the rather intense moment you shared with bakugou, researching your past and the so called genes that drew you both together seemed like the best option.

you looked through the array of books, ran your fingers across the dusty spines as you searched for one about venus and mars. then climbed the stairs and searched some more.

you weren't sure how long you'd been looking. just that now there were books sprawled on the floor, tables, and couches. some left open on a specific passage and others discarded in a messy pile.

you were flipping through pages hurriedly and climbing down the stairs once again mindlessly when someone called "you still in here?"

not expecting to hear anyone, you yelped and dropped the book as your foot caught on a stair, sending you flying down the few steps left.

steady arms caught you before your face could meet its destination on the floor. you looked up to meet the pools of fire you'd grown to want to burn in.

"i think you just..." bakugou started, looking deep into your eyes "fell for me." his lips tug up into a smirk as mischief danced behind his gaze.

scoffing, you pushed off his chest to find your footing again "don't flatter yourself. i was just... surprised."

now steady on your feet, you walked past him to your pile of open books scattered on the table "it's just like you said." you gestured to the books "i don't care about these stories. or how my ancestor was head over heels in love with yours. i'm my own person and i don't like you. not that way."
