| CHAPTER TWENTY SIX |

chaos is when
an angel
falls in love
with a demon.

IT WAS SO SOFT. softer than the clouds and the touch of your mother whenever she comforted you.

pearly white with intricate designs of gold. your blood, the ichor running in your veins, its gold was now painted on it.

you stared at it in shock. but what had you expect?

you'd killed, more than once, and now you were leading a rebellion against the heavens. was this how every fallen had felt?

another sharp pain clawed at your back. that beast of pain had awoken again. and now that it'd tasted freedom, it'd come back with vengeance.

with your back still to the mirror and one feather in your hand, you closed your eyes and took a deep breath.

"rip off the bandaid." you told yourself. "just do it. one time. it'll hurt but then it'll be over."

two, three, four more breaths and you opened your wings.

a shriek akin to the one of denties' ripped through you.

the ends of the feathers poking out of your skin tore through muscles and nerves as your wings opened.

above you, there was a shower of gold and white. gilded feathers danced and swayed in the air, as they slowly descended.

you stood there, watching, crying as they caressed your arms and cheeks before falling at you feet.

falling slowly, beautifully, taking their time. just like you had.

the weight of everything hit you then. you'd come to save the fallen and now you were a fallen yourself.

words of your angel trainer echoed in your head. he'd warned you. told you it'll be a miracle if you don't fall. you hated that he was right.

they all knew, when they gasped and looked at you wide eyed the moment you read the name mars, the angel you were assigned to.

they made one mistake though. they though you'd fall because of love. because of a curse your ancestors were put under.

but no. you'd fallen because of war. because you were bringing justice to every single one of those who were abusing their powers.

and if this was the price, you'd gladly pay it.

your sobs had turned into quiet streams of tears rolling down your cheeks. the pain was gone too, though you were still bleeding a bit.

a sense of calm overtook you as you focused on your purpose, on what you were meant to do.
