is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?

"something's are worth it, regardless of the price."
"even if the price is death?"
"especially if it's death."

"WE'RE HERE."
the temple of eros was abandoned for the most part. a layer of dust covered the floor, yet it didn't take away from the grandeur of the pillars turning into archways.
shoto had stayed by the entrance, keeping watch, but kirishima had insisted on following you in.
the temple wasn't too large. the entrance to the dias was less than forty steps. but the architecture was so breathtaking it took you longer than it should've to close the distance while you took it all in.
on the dias, there was a statue of a woman laying down as an embraced her from behind. his arms were wrapped around her torso covering her breasts, and hers were raised up and looped up around his neck. they were leaning in, forever frozen in that spot right before their lips touch.
and the look on their faces, though only statues, you'd seen that look before. on your mom's face as she looked at your dad. on shoto's face when he looked at izuku. and on bakugou's when he looked at you.
"eros and psyche" kirishima said from behind you. "love cannot live without trust."
"yes. that's what eros said." you grabbed a knife from your thigh and made a cut across your palm.
"you agree with him?" the read head asked.
"that's why i was mad at katsuki for the longest. don't you agree?"
"i do. and how very eros and psyche of you two to get back together." kirishima chuckled.
"mhm." you fisted your hand and held it on top of the dias. "come on, come on, come on,"
you watched your blood drop, a bright gold on the white marble before it sizzled and evaporated.
a thud, thud, thud, made you jump back and watch as the stoned in the ground moved to the side and opened a door to a stair case going down.
"they seem to be welcoming us." kirishima said even though his sword was out and ready.
"don't be a fool. everything has a price. let's just hope we can afford this one."
you slowly made your way down the stairs with kirishima on your heels. the room below was brighter than any room under the ground should have been.
the long walls narrowed into an opening, letting in the natural light and today, the war cries of the commotion outside.
in the center of the room, there was a pool with a fountain in the shape of a bow and arrow in the middle of it. pink water dripped from the tip of the arrow and rose petals floated in the pool.
you'd heard the stories about the enchanted pool. about the prayers and wishes answered by the god of love. but you also remembred the warnings of the elders, telling you to be cautious of the gods above and avoid the gods below.
you kneeled by the water and bent until your forehead touched the ground. "please" then you said the holly words, the prayer you were thought as a little girl. if you couldn't make a deal with the devil, then you'd try the gods of heaven.
whatever the sacrifice.
