When Harry and Draco had gotten together that one faithful night, they had just trusted that everything would work out. They trusted wrong.

Draco avoided his friends for most of the first day and stuck by Pansy. He broke the news to her and she couldn't have been happier for him. Draco felt giddy whenever he saw Harry now, not that he did anything to show it. The first week or so went smoothly, Draco just chalked up his distancing to being busy.

He soon came to the realization that he could not just ignore the entire student body. His first approach was to 'make fun' of Harry privately to his friends, so they would be less suspicious. But what he found now was that being Harry's boyfriend made him feel protective. Sure, he'd felt protective of Harry before. Now, it took a lot of self control to not butt in when his friends poked at Harry with rude comments. Not to mention how difficult it was for them to get alone time. He felt just as drained as before they'd been together. At least he had Harry though... right?

Harry was having his own issues. At first, he had been blissfully ignorant of any issues dating Draco posed. He was caught up in their secret meet ups and the feeling of Draco's hand in his. Not for long. While Draco had Pansy, Harry hadn't told anybody about their relationship just yet. He knew that Ron and Hermione would be accepting, but what about the rest of the world? The more days that went by, the more Harry feared how this would be taken by everyone. Being Harry Potter and all, he was constantly under the public eye. He remembered what the prophet had said about him and Hermione, and that wasn't even true! It was hard to think about that the prophet would do if they were to find out about Draco.

The boys didn't tell each other of these worries. Their time spent together started to be filled with an odd tension. They didn't address it, though they knew that something was up. It was taking a lot out of Draco not to just melt down in Harry's arms whenever they hugged.
Until he did.

A mere few weeks into dating, Draco couldn't deal with it anymore. He finally broke and told Harry about all of these mental demons. He didn't know if he had gone to see Harry with this intent, but he told him that they had to break up. He didn't want to leave Harry, but he couldn't handle all of this. It had just been his gut feeling. Harry hadn't reacted exactly how Draco expected. He had been... understanding? Draco was unsure. Harry was pretty quiet when he heard. There had been tears, but silent tears. Harry just told him that it was okay and ran off. Draco just watched him leave, heart shattering.

So that brings us to where Draco laid in bed, staring blankly at the wall. He had just slugged himself back to the dorms after ending things with Harry. The arrogant Draco Malfoy, the Draco Malfoy who seethed confidence, was feeling... lost. Defeated. For such a short time, he had all that he had ever wanted. Harry. But now, it was over. Draco barely slept that night.

The next few days were sorrowful. The first day, Harry didn't even come to class. When he finally did, they both avoided each other at all costs. Draco didn't even know if he wanted to see Harry or not. Part of him didn't want to face him, but part of him missed Harry dearly.

Harry was feeling extremely conflicted. When Draco had broken things off, he had almost felt in agreement? Harry was afraid. Afraid to tell his friends, afraid to tell the world. So yes, he was heartbroken. But maybe this could be a weight lifted off his shoulders? Harry knew that wasn't true, he just tried to convince himself.

Draco had been in his head for days. It was dinnertime now, and Draco was laying in bed yet again, gazing at the ceiling. It was like a battle in his mind, Harry or acceptance? It was consuming him. He only had the gift of being with Harry for such a short time, yet the loss was jarring. He craved the feeling of Harry's arms around him again. It had just made him feel so safe. It was almost laughable, how Draco had grown up rich and probably spoiled, but all he wanted now was Harry. 'I thought this would make things better, not worse than before.' He thought. He weighed both sides. Who was he even doing this for? His father? His 'friends'? The rest of the world? Draco suddenly shot straight up in bed. What was wrong with him? He had finally managed to win Harry Potter over, and threw it away? He felt like he'd been smacked in the face when all the dust settled in his mind. He had let Harry slip right though his fingers. Draco loved Harry, and he realized right then that it was worth all the hate, all the disapproval.

"Fuck it." He said aloud, jumping to his feet. He hurriedly made his way down to the great hall where people were starting to leave. His eyes scanned the crowd and he spotted Harry walking with Ron and Hermione. He pushed through the crowd, ignoring the looks of people around. He reached the trio and they looked at him in confusion. "Harry," He said, slightly out of breath. "Can we talk? Please?" Ron and Hermione glanced over at Harry in question, and he sighed, nodding. They silently walked away, Hermione throwing one last glace over her shoulder. Draco looked around at the crowded hall. "Not here." He added, heading away and gesturing for Harry to follow. They entered a nearby classroom and shut the door. Harry looked up at Draco expectantly, still not having spoken. Draco tried to stay composed. "Harry... I'm so sorry." He began, voice low. "I was wrong, to end things. I was just scared, and honestly am still a little scared now. I won't waste time with excuses, but you are so much more important to me than what anybody thinks. Even my father. So basically, would you forgive me and take a second chance, please?" He couldn't believe that he was basically pleading. But he needed Harry back. Harry stared at Draco with the same blank expression as when they had walked in. Draco's stomach was sinking, what if Harry hated him now? Without a word, Harry pulled Draco in by his shoulders and kissed him. Draco felt flooded with relief and joy. He threaded his hands into Harry's hair, reveling in the feeling. Harry pulled away and broke into a grin.

"Who knew that I would have Draco Malfoy begging for my forgiveness." He teased. Draco wrapped his arms around Harry and held him close, not even a bit annoyed at the joke. "Dray, I'm scared too. But I've been fighting the dark lord since I was a baby, I think I can handle the press being shocked by my sexuality." Draco laughed and kissed the top of Harrys head. Harry pulled away from the hug and looked Draco in the eyes. "I'll be able to handle it if we handle it together, alright?" He took Draco's hands and squeezed them.

"Of course." Draco agreed, leaning in for another kiss. Harry was right, they'd get through it together. This time was different from the last, they were going into their relationship with a game plan. The plan being, don't give a shit about anybody unsupportive.
