- Ron dares Harry to take a picture with Draco -

word count: 891

Harry, Ron, and Hermione hovered a bit in the distance from Draco and Pansy in the great hall, waiting for their time to strike. Not strike as in hex or fight, their objective here was to snap a picture. The night  prior, Ron had decided during a game of truth or dare that Harry should get a picture with the blonde. It didn't take much to convince Harry, he thought it was a funny idea.

"Look, this might be your chance." Hermione whispered, as they observed Pansy walk away after telling him something that seemed like goodbye, followed by Draco kneeling down to tie his shoe. Ron had already started to contain laughter in preparation for what was about to happen. Draco gave a final tug to his shoe then moved to stand. Harry gave a thumbs up to Hermione before making a break for it. He ran over to Draco, the blonde still facing the opposite direction. He only turned when Harry was right by his side. He jumped slightly in surprise.

"What- hey, you-" He sputtered, oddly flustered. Harry stuck up bunny ears behind Draco's head and flashed a grin at Hermione.

"Smile!" He told Draco. Draco did not smile. The camera clicked as Draco attempted to scramble away. Harry and Ron simultaneously burst into laughter the second the camera was lowered. Draco scowled and shoved Harry.

"Screw you, Potter." He said, before storming away. Hermione cracked a smile too, then covered her mouth as she began to laugh. She was holding the picture in her hand, and angled it to show Ron. Ron wheezed in response.

"Oi, let me see!" Harry called, stumbling over to his friends through laughter. Hermione flipped the picture and showed Harry. It was quite honestly hilarious. It depicted Harry's wide grin at the camera, while Draco's bothered expression was priceless. Harry and Ron struggled to breathe with tears in their eyes, but Hermione managed to keep her composure a bit better.

The three boarded the train, laughter faded but smiles still present upon their faces. Harry was half hoping to catch Draco again to say bye for the summer, but no luck. Harry settled into his seat on the train, opening his mouth to speak, but then paused.

"Hey, Hermione?" He said. She hummed. "Do you think I could get two of those?"

Draco was laid on his back on his bed, staring at the ceiling. It was the first day of summer. Contrary to popular belief, Draco had quite the distaste for summer. He always complained about Hogwarts being a toilet of a school, but he had much more of an enjoyable time there than at home. He spent most of the time locked in his room, avoiding his parents. Before Draco's mind could wander further, he heard a tap at his window. He peeked over with a side-eye, and saw a white owl perched on the sill outside. Draco groaned and shut his eyes for a brief moment, before standing and walking to the window. The owl tapped on the glass again as he fumbled with the window lock.

"Yeah, yeah. Give me a second." He muttered, not that the owl could hear or understand. He pulled open the window and the owl fluttered inside. Draco was suspicious that he recognized said owl, but he shook the feeling. The bird dropped the envelope clutched in it's beak onto Draco's dresser and took flight, exiting the room. Draco raised an eyebrow at the return address. So he had been right, it was Potter's owl. He briefly considered the fact that Potter could be pranking him, and it would be some sort of disguised howler or bomb. Curiosity got the better of him pretty quickly and he tore it open anyways. The only contents were a single square photo. Draco was surprised to find himself smiling at what he saw. It was the picture that Granger had taken of Harry and Draco the day prior. Harry's smile looked so genuine, it panged at something in Draco's heart. The blonde did find humor in his own expression, even though he had been angry at the time. He flipped the picture over to find some scribbled writing on the back. Draco held it a bit closer to his face and read the short message.

'made a copy for you, malfoy. thought you'd appreciate it. enjoy your potter free summer, - scarface'

Draco's smile did not fade. He might even think it widened.

"Stupid Potter, handwriting is as bad as ever." He said to himself, but it was in an oddly fond way. Draco hesitated, then began to search his room for a thumb tack. He had a small board by his bed with photos of his few friends, and some of his mother. He wasn't allowed much decoration in his room, to preserve the class of the manor. Draco found a stray tack in a drawer of old papers and stepped over to the board. He pinned it right in the middle without thinking. He wondered after he had done it if it was worth moving, but he liked it there. Front and center, Draco and the horribly stupid foul chosen one. The horribly stupid foul chosen one who sometimes made his heart skip a beat.

10 years later, Harry and Draco would recreate the picture for their wedding photos.
