- Harry can't get Teddy to stop crying -

word count: 981

Harry stared down at his wailing child in desperation. Teddy, who was not yet a year old, would not stop crying. Harry was 19 and had been caring for Teddy for nearly a year. After the war, he had started work at the ministry. Unrelated to the war or his job, Harry hardly got any sleep. Teddy was a big crier, and often cried more at night than during the day. Technically Harry could use a silencing charm, but what if something happened? Harry's protectiveness wouldn't allow him to just silence Teddy's room, especially with all that Harry had gone through as a child. He needed to know Teddy was safe, even if it meant barely any sleep.

Today wasn't like any other day, he was having company while Teddy was home. A rare occurrence. A few months after the war, Harry and Draco had gotten together and their relationship was going strong. Draco hadn't yet met Teddy properly, he'd merely seen him here and there. Harry tried to get Teddy over to Ron and Hermione's when Draco came over, or he would come over while Teddy slept, as he assumed that Draco had a distaste for children. Draco was coming over later in the day so they could watch a movie together. Harry had hoped that Teddy would sleep through the visit since it was only early evening, but no luck. Teddy was awake and loud. Harry was startled by a knock at the door. He gave one last look at Teddy before shutting the door to the nursery and heading towards the door. He unlocked it and pulled the handle, to see Draco standing before him. He gave a weak smile.

"Hey, come in." He greeted, allowing Draco to enter. He cringed internally at the fact that Teddy's cries could be heard from the other room. He shut the door and sighed, pulling Draco into a hug. He buried his face in Draco's shoulder and closed his eyes, wishing he knew what to do about Teddy.

"Tired, are we Potter?" Draco said trying to sound bothered, but failing and resting his arms around Harry. Harry groaned.

"I'm really sorry about Ted, he won't stop crying. I hope it's not too much of a bother." Harry explained, looking up at Draco.

"No worries." The blonde reassured with a small smile. Harry couldn't resist stealing a kiss, making Draco roll his eyes but smiling nonetheless. "Can I say hi to the little guy?" Draco asked, eyes glancing towards Teddy's wails. Harry's eyebrows raised in surprise, but he agreed happily. He lead the way to Teddy's room and opened the door, the cries immediately becoming louder.

"I've got a way with kids, you know. They like me." Draco said, and Harry snorted as they advanced towards the crib.

"You have a way with kids?" He said in disbelief. Draco gave him a look of mock offense. Harry rolled his eyes. "Sure Malfoy, sure." Draco scoffed and bent down towards Teddy, tenderly scooping him up. As soon as he was in Draco's arms, Teddy's crying ceased. He sniffed and looked up at Draco with wide and curious eyes. Draco smirked at Harry, who gaped at the scene before him.

"You were saying?" Draco teased.

"I- you- how..." Harry stuttered, staring at Teddy's expression of wonder. "I have tried everything with him, and nothing will get him to stop crying. How did you do that?" Harry said exasperatedly. Draco shrugged.

"I told you, I have a way with kids. I always have, but it's never been handy until now." He explained, adjusting his hold on Teddy. Harry wordlessly slumped against the wall, staring at the baby in defeat. Who knew that Draco had the magic touch? Why had that been all it took? "Should we go watch the movie? I can take Teddy with us, maybe he'll fall asleep." Draco suggested. Harry nodded, this might help get Teddy off of his nocturnal sleeping schedule. Draco followed Harry into the lounge where they plopped onto the couch, Draco more carefully as he held Teddy. The small boy gazed up at Draco, then reached out and tried to touch his face. It made Draco smile. Harry was so surprised by all of this, he wouldn't have pinned Draco as a kid person. Regardless, he pulled up their previously agreed upon movie and put it on. Harry focused on staying awake, he hardly got time when it was quiet to relax. He couldn't help but glance fondly over at the two when Teddy would make happy babbling noises at Draco. Harry kept adjusting his sitting position to stay awake and rubbing his eyes, hoping his head wasn't nodding around too much. He wasn't as incognito as he'd hoped when Draco spoke up. "Harry, when's the last time you slept?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Harry blinked drowsily and chuckled.

"Why does that matter? Probably... last week..." He said, stifling a yawn. Draco knew that Teddy was a lot of work for Harry, and felt guilty for not helping him more.

"Why don't you get some rest, okay? I have Teddy here, it's alright." It didn't take much to convince Harry. He trusted Draco with Teddy. He smiled at the blonde wanly.

"Thank you." He whispered, kissing Draco's nose. He curled up against Draco's side and let his eyes fall shut. Draco lowered the volume on the television. He noticed Teddy grow sleepy as well, and he stopped trying to grab hold of Draco's shirt or hair. It wasn't long before Harry and Teddy were both asleep, leaving Draco to watch over them. He wanted to laugh, how if he had told himself in sixth year that three years later he'd be cradling Harry's godson with Harry himself sleeping against him, he'd have been hexed. As of now, he wasn't bothered at all.
