Adonis woke up to a bottle of water and a pack of painkillers on his bedside table. Not only was his head banging, but he could barely remember anything from the night before. Everything was like a distant memory. All he knew was that at some point he saw Hazel and then he threw up. Judging by the fact that he had water next to him and some paracetamol, Hazel was probably still in the house.
The first thing he did was look for his phone. He needed to call his mum and ask her how she was doing since he didn't get the chance to call her last night. The guilt was already settling in as he thought about how he'd completely forgot about his mum. He wasn't the only one grieving, his mum was too, and he needed to be there for her.
"Morning ma." He spoke once his mum picked up the phone. Ms. Joyce did a double take and looked at the time, surely it wasn't still morning.
"Morning? Baby it's one in the afternoon. Are you okay? You sound sick." She bombarded Adonis with questions with worry. He was all she had left, there was nothing she wanted more in this world than for him to be safe.
"Yeah ma. I'm fine thank you. How are you? Do you need anything?"
"Oh honey. I'm fine thank you. Hazel sends me these beautiful messages every morning and it just gives me the extra push to get my day going." She explained. The thought of Hazel going out of her way to make sure his mother kept a smile on her face made him smile. She was truly a beautiful soul.
"Really? That's sweet of her. What are you getting up to today?"
"Oh yes, I really do love her, but then she's always been such a sweetheart." His mum smiled to herself. "Today I'm spending your money and meeting with the preacher I was telling you about before you left. I would love for him to lead the service." She told him.
Adonis chuckled lightly at the thought of his mum spending money on things that she probably didn't even need. He felt blessed that he was able to give his mum that financial freedom, because growing up he didn't have that. "I'm happy with whoever you choose." He admitted. He trusted his mothers opinion and knew that she wanted the best send off for her deceased son. "I love you so much mum. You know you'll always have me so please don't ever second guess calling me if you need anything."
After losing his brother he felt like it was important for him to let those around him know how much he loved them. You never know when your last day on earth is.
"Baby. I love you so much more. You're all I have left and you let me go crazy with your card, how could I not?" She laughed.
The banter his mum was hitting him with this morning was warming his heart. He loved that she seemed to be dealing with things in a way that wasn't negative. He couldn't say the same for himself.
They ended their phone call shortly afterwards then Adonis crawled out of bed and made his way to his en-suite. He noticed Hazel's suitcase open wide on the floor next to the bathroom which confirmed his thoughts from earlier. After doing his business in there, he threw on some long shorts and made his way downstairs to see where in the house Hazel was. First he checked the living room, when he realised everything was neat and nobody was there, he made his way into the conservatory. With no sign of the woman of his affection, he made his way to the kitchen.
There Hazel stood cutting some onions as she watched some show on Netflix with her AirPods in. Adonis couldn't remember much from last night but he knew that he had definitely been a nightmare if she had to clean up his mess after throwing up. He was grateful that she had even stayed the night.
Walking up behind her, he wrapped his arms around her and kissed the side of her neck gently, basking in her sweet scent.
But Hazel was still irritated with him. He had personally told her that he wasn't a drinker so the fact that he decided to drink so irresponsibly really didn't sit right with her.
