Standing over him impatiently, I hand over the key letting him have a look. With the key in his grasp, he spectates the object and his eyes go wide. Waiting for him to say something I blurt out words of anger.
"Start explaining!" Speaking in a harsh tone as he begins caressingly rubs the key in the palm of his hand. He looks up at me with pleading eyes holding onto the key tightly.
"You found it." He states looking back down at the key in defeat. If he thinks I'm going to feel sorry for him right now, he is terribly mistaken.
"I actually found both of them!" I pull the other key out of my back pocket and toss it at him, catching it with a firm grip in the palm of his left hand, knowing exactly what I'm going to say.
"You thought you were so slick trying to hide all of this from me! Hiding this for over a year! What were you thinking!? That I just would never find out about you and Lucas!? I can't believe you! How could you!" I look down at the table in front of me wanting to flip it over out of anger instead I decide to pace back and forth.
"I wanted to tell you! I wanted to so bad because every time I looked at you I just felt so guilty that you didn't know but I couldn't tell you, I saw how broken you were when we found out that his body was found and I saw how shaken up you were when the cops came and then out of nowhere you asked me to cover for you! And I just didn't know what to think when you asked that out of me! Even after everything, even after months past I couldn't just spring that kind of information onto you when you were at your lowest!" I cringe at the memory of being question by cops and getting my brother to lie for me, I was so anxious and I was losing my mind at that moment.
"So you couldn't tell me right then and there, so you just decided to never tell me? That's messed up Kyle! That's messed up big time and you know it! If I would've never found out about the truth of what was going on behind my back with you and Lucas that would've been so unfair to me!" I slam my fists against the living room table as I spoke the last sentence, getting my point across.
"Look I'm sorry! I just didn't want to hurt you even more! I never wanted it to come out like this!" I pursed my lip clenching my jaw while running my fingers through my hair. "So you found the other key in the box in my room?" He spoke with a raspy voice.
"Yeah I did, great hiding place by the way. Under the bed? Wow who would've guessed." Said in such a sarcastic tone. "But don't worry your precious box is safe."
"I wasn't trying to hide it from you! I was going to tell you! I just didn't know when was the right moment!"
"Oh, so you were just planning to tell me when the right moment was for you...so you thought maybe ten or twenty years from now would be perfect?!" He lets out a exaggerated scoff.
"Millie don't be ridiculous!"
"No! I'm being serious! You never wanted me to find out at all! Not because you cared about me or my feelings or when the perfect moment was but because you just needed to protect yourself!" A look of puzzlement and surprise crossed his face causing him to tilt his head.
"Protect myself? Protect myself from what!?" Disbelief at the words that came out of my mouth he jumps to his feet swinging his arms around in desperation.
"You need to protect yourself because you killed him that night, didn't you!" Baffled at my assumptions drops the keys onto the table, looking up at me heartbroken.
"Yo-You think." He stands there in front of me in disbelief. "Yes I had a relationship with him Millie but I didn't kill him! Are you serious right now! Is that what you believe?! Is that what you've been told?!" Distraught at me brothers reaction I grunt in frustration while kicking the table in front of me. We probably need a new table after today.
