Fiddling with my finger nails I sit impatiently waiting for a text message from Jesse.
This morning I sent Jesse a message using the phone number he gave me, but he hasn't replied yet.
Glancing down at my phone it still says no new notifications.
As I glance back up, I spot Carter and Asher entering the cafeteria walking towards me with a bag of chips in Carter's hand.
I haven't spoken to either of them since that day I went over to his house a couple days ago.
"Not hungry?" Carter asks referring to the empty table as he approaches. I didn't get lunch today. I just wasn't hungry.
"I had a fruit cup for breakfast." Fruit cups are always good to eat not matter the time or day. That is not up for discussion.
Carter sits in front of me opening his big red bag of Doritos while Asher sit next to him with no food either.
"You weren't at school yesterday." Carter's says looking straight at me but I can't tell if that is that a question or a comment?
"I went to this coffee shop to find some more details." He gives me a funny look. I would too if someone told me they went to a coffee shop for clues.
"I probably wouldn't have showed up again today but my parents weren't thrilled when they got a phone call from the school saying I never showed up. I left a note but I guess they never saw it and they said I had to go to school today."
"Did you go alone?" I look at him puzzled. He isn't going to ask or question what was at the coffee shop?
"No I went with Owen and Josh." I can sense the jealousy tension starting up at the mention Owens name.
"Owen? Why with Owen?" He stopped eating his chips.
"Owen was the one who found out about the information and just gave me a ride. It's not like I asked for his help or anything." Owen just helped. I didn't ask him to. Why isn't he getting mad that I was with Josh to? Or better question why is he getting mad at all?
"Well what information did you find out since you were gone all day?" I'm hungry now. I grab his bag of chips and start eating them. This is what he gets from taking my food everyday since I met him.
"That Lucas went to this coffee shop a lot and I don't know why. All I know is I never knew he went there." I take my phone out to see if Jesse ever texted back.
No message.
"But while I was there we ran into one of Owens old friends and he knew of Lucas. I have a lot of questions for him so he gave me his phone number, I texted him but he hasn't replied yet." I hand the chips back to him.
"So what's the next step?" He closes the bag of chips and put them in his backpack.
"Yeah what's the secret mission?" I forgot Asher was here for a moment since this is the longest he's been quiet for.
"I'm going to go talk to Leila again. I already know this is a bad idea since I just spoke to her but she is the only person who knows anything and I will take any information I can get!" After my last face to face with her it didn't go well. It never does but I'm hoping if I keep bothering her she will just tell me instead of playing this game that she does.
"Why her? Isn't there anyone else you can ask questions too?" I wish there was.
"No. If there was I would go to them instead in a heartbeat."
The bell rings.
"I will see you guys later." We head to our next class.
I'm dreading after school.
