Ivy Moore

I laid on the couch staring up at the wooden ceiling, I held the piece of green fabric from my dress close to my chest. Elle cleaned it for me, she said she tried her best to get some of the bloodstains off but it was too hard. She gave me some of her clothes to wear so I changed into a black shirt and a pair of jean shorts.

All I could think about was Paxton, I missed him. I wanted him to be here with me, to hold me and make me feel safe again. I didn't know what I was gonna do. My dad was dead, William was dead and Paxton... might be dead too. The cops probably think I'm dead so I'm going to have to keep it that way, I can't let them know I'm alive. I probably shouldn't have told Elenor my actual name, but she seems like a sweet person and she was letting me stay with her until I was ready to leave. But now that I had a place to stay, I was going to have to find out if Paxton was dead.

The next morning I woke up to the smell of coffee and eggs. I slowly opened my eyes and was hit with the bright sunlight shining through the windows. I moved my eyes around the room, I was under a small blanket and my head was resting on a soft pillow. I moved my gaze to the small kitchen where I saw Elenor standing near the stove cracking an egg onto the hot pan. I watched her put salt and pepper over the egg before turning her back to the stove and making her way to the coffee machine that had a small mug sitting underneath it. She looked in my direction and smiled when she saw that I was awake and made her way towards me.

"Good morning, Ivy." She said as she handed me the hot cup of fresh coffee.

"Morning." I replied, my voice was raspy.

I sat up straight as I held the mug in my hands, I looked closely at my hands and realized I had a few cuts on them. I didn't remember how I got them.

I blew into my coffee before lifting it up to my mouth and taking a small sip.

"Good morning mama!" I heard Lucas's cheerful voice.

I turned my head towards the hallway and saw Lucas walk out wearing blue pajamas that were covered with dinosaurs. I smiled as I watched him run into his mom's arms.

It made me miss my dad, and the painting we did in the garage.

"Come on, let's eat, I made your favorite." She tells him as she leads him to the small dining table.

"Eggs!" Lucas cheered as he stared down at his plate of eggs.

Elle let out a small laugh before placing a kiss on his head and walking back to the kitchen. She grabbed another plate of eggs and walked over to me.

"I hope you like eggs." She says as she places the plate on the coffee table.

"I do, thank you Elle." I say as I flash her a smile.

She gives me a small nod before walking back to her son.

I stared down at the eggs before grabbing the plate and digging in.

I walked into the kitchen to see Elenor cleaning a bunch of dishes.

"Here let me help." I suggest as I grab a cleaned plate and dry it with a small towel.

"Oh you don't have to." She tells me.

"It's the least I could do, after all if it weren't for you I would be dead." I state.

She smiles at me and then looks back down at the dishes she was cleaning.

I place the dried plate on the kitchen island and grab another one to dry.

"May I ask you something Ivy?" Elenor questions.

"Of course." I tell her as I place the plate onto the other stack of plates.

"Who's Paxton?" She inquired.

I stand there frozen as I hear his name come from her mouth.

Paxton.

I was hesitant, I wasn't sure how to answer her.

"Uh, he was the guy I loved." I answered, without thinking.

I held my breath as I realized what I said.

"The guy I loved."

The room falls silent for a minute.

"He's a very lucky guy." She finally says.

I smile as I look down at my feet.

"Mama! I can't find my trousers!" I hear Lucas call from the bedroom.

"Coming!" Elle calls back.

She walks out of the kitchen and I'm left alone with my thoughts.

I missed him, his stupid jokes, his laugh, his scent. He was never supposed to mean this much to me. I was never supposed to fall this hard. But you know what? I did and that's the truth, and that's what's keeping me to hold onto him, because it hurts like hell to let him go.
