Paxton Clark

I knew it, Ivy. I knew it. This whole time, I had a feeling.
-Paxton
"Hey, can I sit here?" I ask Victor as I walk up to his table.
Alan and Joel look at me like I was crazy.
"Of course, kid." Victor says as he scoots over to make room for me on the long bench.
I sat down next to him and placed my tray of food on the table.
"What the hell is going on here?" Alane asks, moving his finger back and forth between Victor and me.
Victor chuckles.
"This is Paxton, my best friend." Victor jokes.
Joel shakes his head and looks back down at his food.
Alan stares at me for a few seconds then goes back to eating.
"Aren't you gonna eat?" Victor says as he points to my untouched food.
"I'm not that hungry." I tell him.
"You should eat. The doctor told you that you had to." He states.
I look down at my food and begin to scoop some gross mashed potatoes onto my plastic fork and I put it in my mouth and taste the soft texture to it. It tasted horrible but it was better than having no food at all.
"I heard you got tased." Joel says.
I look up at him and see him looking at me.
"Yeah, I woke up in the middle of the night. I had a bad dream." I answer.
Joel nods.
"What was it about?" Alan questions.
I move my gaze to him.
"I don't remember." I lie.
The table falls silent and I proceed to eat my food.
"Number 105" I hear someone yell from a distance.
I look up and see a big buff cop looking at me from the entrance of the cafeteria. That was my number.
I look at Victor, scared at what was happening.
"You'll be fine, kid. Go." He reassures.
I nod before getting up and walk toward the cop.
"Yes?" I say as I walk up.
"Paxton?" He questions.
I nod.
"Okay." He says before turning me around and cuffing me.
"Where are you taking me?" I ask.
"The sheriff wants to talk to you." He tells me.
We walk through the halls until we reach the interrogation room.
Why was I here?
We walk in and I see the main sheriff looking down at some files he had in front of him, I get placed in the seat right across from him. He stares me down for a moment before nodding to the cop. The cop walks out of the room and we're left alone.
"Paxton Clark." He says still looking down at the files.
"That's me." I confirm.
He looks up at me.
"Do you know why you're here?" He asks.
"Nope, you tell me." I say, smirking.
"There's been an incident back in California." He begins.
California? What?
I don't say anything and allow him to continue.
"A girl. She came into the Las Angeles County Jail looking for you." He explains.
I feel my heart stop beating. I couldn't believe a word he was saying.
"They said her name was Jasmine. She told them she was your sister." He went on.
Sister? Jasmine? I don't have a sister and I definitely don't know a girl named Jasmine.
"Here, we got some camera footage from the police department there, she started yelling at the front desk lady. So she was thrown out." He tells me as he begins to pull papers out of the files in front of him.
He pulls out a few photos and places them in front of me.
I stare down at them and my heart starts to race and butterflies erupt in my stomach.
Ivy.
Her hair was short, she had bruises and cuts on her hands. I looked at all the photos, she was crying. They were hurting her. I felt my blood boil as I looked at the way they were grabbing her.
She's alive. She's alive. SHE'S ALIVE.
I knew it.
I bite my lip to hold in my smile.
"She's my half-sister. I never met her, but I've seen pictures of her." I lie to the sheriff.
"We've tried getting in touch with her, but we can't get any information." He tells me.
Of course, you can't. She's not actually my sister, she's the love of my life. Idiot. She's the girl you guys think is dead.
"Oh." I say, not sure what to say to that.
"May I go please?" I ask him.
The sheriff sighs.
"Sorry Paxton." He says.
She's alive.
"Are you gonna be okay?"
She's alive.
"Paxton?"
She's alive.
"Paxton." I hear the sheriff's voice.
I push my thoughts away and look up at him.
"I didn't know her that well anyway." I tell him.
"Oh. Well, that's all I wanted to talk to you about." He says.
I stared down at my lap for a moment until I got pulled up and was taken back to my cell.
I lay on my bed and smile freakishly.
My beautiful tesorina was alive.
