A month.

A FUCKING MONTH!!

Longest month of my life. Not a day went by when I didn't think about Luke. I've cried myself to sleep so many nights. Dream, sometimes nightmares even. I've always wanted to call Luke, but I always back out. He hasn't been at school. Math class hasn't been the same. It's only Calum and I in that class. The tension is intense. Ashton moved to Lincoln Prep. Michael, Kaitlyn, Ash, and I have become close. I finally turned 18 during this month. I decided to move in with Ashton, for protection from Carson. Dad didn't like it. Dad and I have not been getting along lately. When he said he was going to "work", he was actually going to a local pub and getting shit wasted and going home with one of the bartenders.

Speaking of Carson. He was furious when Ashton and I quit. Told us, and I quote, "Going to regret that decision. " So far he hasn't done any damage yet, but only time could tell.

"Miss Holt?" Mr. Waters asked.

"Yes sir?" I ask.

"Could you please do a coffee run for us?" He asks.

"Yes sir." I say.

"Okay, go around and get everyone's order. Go to that new place, if you don't mind." He says.

"Jack's Coffee and More?" I ask.

"Yes, that's the place. Thank you so much dear." Mr. Waters says.

"Anytime sir." Oh yeah, I didn't mention. I got a job as an intern at the local newspaper. I've always had a passion for writing and this was the best place. I go around the office and get ready to walk out the door. 

"Holt. where ya heading off too?" someone says, I turn around and Johnathan says, coming towards me.

"Oh. Coffee run." I say.

"Oh, I was going to ask if you'd want to hang out later." He asks.

"I'm sorry, I'd love to, but I'm busy. Thank you tho." He has head a crush on me ever since I've gotten here. Really, I have no life, but I'm just not ready for a relationship. 

"Oh okay." He says, turning around and walking back to his office. I walk out the door and head over to the coffee shop. Damn, this line is long. I get in line, behind a boy with his dog. No. Fucking. Way.

I tap him on the shoulder. "Hey, Luke." I say. He turns around and I swear I'm going to cry. "It's me Kayla."

"Oh my god." He chuckles and hugs me. I've missed his hugs so much. "I'm really sorry, I didn't recognize you there for a minute." He says, scratching the back of his neck. He still does it and it makes me giggle.

"It's okay. How have you been? I haven't seen you at school in ages." I say. I look down at the dog and I want it. "And whose this?" I ask.

"Oh, this is Axel." He says.

"He's beautiful. Look at those eyes." I say, and Axel nuzzles his head into my hand.

"I decided that I would finish out my year home schooled with Hanley." He says. 

"Speaking of her, how is she?" I ask. the line move up. He bites his lip. Oh god.

"She's right over there." He says, pointing over to a table. There she is, reading a book. There is a boy sitting in front of her. Oh shit. "Don't get the wrong idea. That's Niall, her Animal Assistance Therapist." He says.

"She looks happy." I smile.

"Niall just recommenced that she only see him with Axel here once every two weeks. She's almost finished with school actually. She get to graduate early in a couple of weeks." Luke says. 

"Wow, that's crazy." I say. "L-Luke I-"

"I know. I'm just glad to see you again." He smiles. "So how have you been?" 

"Oh, I've been better." I say, "But I got a job at the local newspaper." 

"Wait, really? That's amazing!" He says, giving me another hug. "What about-"

"We quit that day we dropped Hanley's medicine off." I say, looking down.

"Oh. That's good." He says, looking down as well.

I can't help to let e few tears slip. "I'm sorry Luke. I never meant to hurt you. I just didn't want anything to happen to you. I'm sorry." 

He wipes away a tear that fell from my eye. "Hey, let's not talk about this right now." I nod. "Meet me here at 8." He smiles.

"Alright." I smile. We talk some more until it's hs turn to order, then it's mine. I grab the drinks.

"I'll see you at 8." He says.

"I'll be here." I say. He comes over and hugs me.

"I've missed you Kayla." He whispers before walking back over to Hanley and Niall.

"I've missed you too Luke." I whisper, walking back to the office.
