"We're here." Luke announced. He pulls into the the surprisingly empty parking lot of the beach.
"You'd think there would be more people here." I say, opening the door of Luke's car and getting out.
"Yeah, but hey, we got the beach to ourselves." He says, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms behind me.
"Damn it." I say, sarcastically. Luke pouts and walks away from me. "Baby!" I say, running up to him and grabbing his hand.
"You're gonna pay Holt!" He says. He grabs my waist and throws me over his shoulder.
"LUKE!" I yell. "LET ME DOWN!"
"Nope!" He says. He carries me over to the edge of the water. "Say you're sorry."
"I'm sorry. I'm glad it's just us. LET ME DOWN!" I laugh. He finally sets me down.
"Happy?" He asks.
"Extremely." I say, standing on my tip toes and giving him a kiss.
We walk along the beach. Holding hands and talking about nothing in particular.
"My mom was kind of pissed when I came home with a lip ring." He says.
"Really?" I ask.
"Yeah." He laughs, "'Luke, why did you do that to your lip?' Is what she said when I walked in through the door." He says, laughing.
"I'm sorry." I laugh.
"Hey, it wasn't your fault." He says.
"I told you that you'd look hot with one. I kind of motivated you." I say.
"I was thinking about one before that." He says.
"There's a question I've been wondering. Did you use to live with Calum?" I ask. The question always haunted me. He never seemed to go home, he was always either at my house, when my mom passed or was at Calum's.
"Well, kind of. I was planning on moving in with Calum after I graduated, but it looks like that's out of he picture now." He says.
"Oh." Is all I say.
"So, hows your dad's new job?" Luke asks, messing with my fingers.
"It's good. He isn't home much, but at least we're getting money." I say.
"I can get you a job as a fighter if you want me to?" Luke jokes.
"Nah, fighting isn't really my thing. We'll leave it up to Hanley." I laugh. As soon as I say her name, my phone buzzes. Hanley's name pops up on the screen.
"Hello?" I say into the phone.
"Kayla, I-I'm sorry to bother you but we have a huge problem." She says.
"Hanley, what's wrong?" I look over to Luke and motion to go back to his car.
"Carson came to Ash's and he had a gun." She trails off until I hear "XL my ass." I try to hide a giggle.
"First off, what? Second off, are you in Ash's medicine cabinet?" I let the laugh escape.
"Yes for the last one, and Carson came to Ash's with a fucking gun, drunk as a skunk and now Cal's here. Can you get here soon?" She rushes.
"Yeah, are you okay?" I ask, Luke opens the car door up for me. I get inside and he closes the door and runs to the driver side.
"No." She whimpers out, "Kayla there is so much stuff I haven't told anybody and it's coming out right in front of me. Please, I need you here."
"I'm on my way, Luke's with me." I say, we're already heading down the road, breaking the speed limit. I put Hanley on speaker phone.
"Shit! I messed up your date. I'm so sorry." She says.
"No need to apologize, Hanley." Luke says. "Just take deep slow breaths. We will be there soon, okay?"
"O-Okay, but Luke." She says.
"Yeah?"
"Bring in that baseball bat that's in your car." She says before hanging up. I look at Luke weirdly.
"Why the fuck is there a baseball bat in your car?" I ask.
"You never know. I could get mugged and I may nee a weapon. So I carry around a baseball bat in my car. Doesn't everyone?" He asks.
"Most people have a gun or pepper spray. Only baseball players have fucking baseball bats in their fucking cars." I laugh.
"Well, I must be a weirdo." He says. We drive a couple more minutes until we reach Ash's house. Luke goes to the back of his car and gets out the baseball bat.
"Let's hope I don't have to use this. If I do." He looks at me and kisses me real quick. "I've always loved you."
"You're weird." I say.
"I know. Know, let's go handle 2 hormonal teenage boys and a drunken brother." He says, acting like the bat is a gun and pretending to cock it.
"I swear." I mumble before opening the door.
