Thirty-two, I'll see him soon enough

I look around as I rinse my hands with soap, washing off all the dirt from the engine I just worked on. It was an engine from a broken car someone brought here a couple of weeks ago. Due to a delay in the delivery of shipments, I wasn't able to fix the engine for a couple of weeks.

The shipments arrived two days ago, and the whole staff, including my dad, has been working their ass off to get as many engines fixed as possible. Things have been a little stressed here, but we're almost done.

"Darling, can you call some people for me?" My dad says as he walks towards me. I dry my hands with a towel as I give my dad a questioning look.

"Yeah, sure. Do you have some kind of list? I just fixed an engine, by the way. It only needs to be cleaned. I was about to do so, but I can do this first if you want." I say, giving my dad a short smile.

"Don't worry. Ben can take care of it. He can also check the car one last time, and we'll add the owner to the list. The list is on the front desk. Just call all these people and tell them their engine is ready. They can pick them up whenever they have the time." My dad says, and I nod in agreement.

I walk over to the front desk as I put my hair in a high ponytail. I grab the phone and take a look at the list. I dial the first number I see and bring the phone to my ear. I take a quick look at the name to see who I'm talking to right now.

"Hello? To who am I speaking? Can I help you with anything?" A voice of a man speaks through the phone. His car broke down a couple of weeks ago because he didn't drive in the car for years, and he didn't let someone check his car before driving in it.

"Hello, you're speaking with Amelia White from the garage. Am I speaking to Mr. Callhaven?" I say, sitting down on the chair as I turn on the computer.

"Yes, this is he. Can I help you with anything?" The man says, and I cross out his name on the list of people to call. His engine was the first one to be fixed yesterday, but the check on his car hadn't been done until today.

"Well, I call to inform you your car has been fixed and is as good as new. We did the last check this morning, and everything was fine. You can pick up your car whenever you like." I say through the phone as I switch it from my left to my right ear.

The man thanked me and said he would come to pick up his car this afternoon. He told me he had an appointment this morning. I hang up and look at the next number. I dial it and bring the phone to my ear again, feeling like some lady who answers every call for a company.

"Hello?" A familiar voice reaches my ear, and I curse myself for not checking the name before dialing the number, but I also should've known Caine would be on the list. His motorcycle is fixed.

"Hey, you're talking to Amelia if you wanted to know," I say as an annoyed expression crosses my face. Why do I have to be the one to call him tonight? Is there no one else who can do this?

"Mia, what a pleasure to hear from you. Are you calling to apologize for the fight we shared yesterday? I'd be delighted to hear your apology." He smirks through the phone, and I know this conversation is amusing to him.

Asshole.

"If you thought you were going to hear an apology coming out from my mouth, you're dead wrong. You're the one who supposed to say sorry for acting like such a dick, but I haven't heard an apology coming out of your mouth." I say as I roll my eyes, getting more annoyed by this conversation as the minutes pass by.

"Such a shame, Mia. I was excited to hear an apology from you. If not about the fight, you could apologize about punching me." Caine says with an amusing smile, which made me roll my eyes again out of annoyance.
