Outskirts of Sokovia

November 1, 2002

"It's a girl," the midwife spoke in a strong sokovian accent. She held up the wailing baby, handing her to the man that stood just to the right. Taking the newborn into his arms, Magneto sensed a smirk creep across his face. He looked the baby in the eyes and watched as her eyes glowed a subtle color of green. Right then, he knew she was special.

"She will be named Olivia," he stated before handing the child back to the midwife. Adjusting his cape, he slowly started to walk towards the door. He opened it, but before leaving, he looked back. "Take good care of that one. She's different than the rest." With that, he exited the old, overgrown cabin, closing the door behind him.

The Midwife took another look at the baby girl in her arms. Using her magic, she looked into her head, seeing great power, strength, and will. "Good work," she said smiling, turning her attention to the baby's birth mother. The midwife laid Olivia in the small wooden crate beside them and proceeded to clean the area around them.

The life in a witch coven was nothing of the ordinary. For the first sixteen years of a newborn's life, elder witches train the children how to manipulate and use their magic for evil. The young witches are taught everything from mind reading, to reality shifting, spell casting, invisibility, flying, and even astral projection. Once they reach the age of sixteen, they have their final assessment: evaluating who is fit to stay. Those who do not pass are immediately sacrificed.

Five children are born into the coven every year. Baby boys are sent off to live with different families, while the girls are required to stay. Magneto, a powerful mutant, and the biological father of all of the children, is the leader of the coven, even though he is never there. Never knowing their biological mothers, the elder witches raise all of the children collectively, not allowing attachments to form.

Growing up in the coven, Olivia was always told that she was special. The witches spoke passionately when discussing Olivia's ability to perform great evils, but deep down inside Olivia always knew that wasn't the case for her. She didn't want to use her power for evil, she wanted to use it for good.

"Luna Warp, it is time for your casting lesson. Why are you standing out here?" one of her teachers asked, gesturing towards the greenery of the forest that surrounded them.

"I just wanted some fresh air" a now nine year old Olivia stated bluntly, her Sokovian accent thick as she spoke. Knowing she had a bright future and that her talents were above her peers, it was easy for her to get away with a lot more than the average witch.

"Well you're late, so get inside" the witch responded, using a ray of blue power to open the door. With a reluctant sigh, Olivia walked into the old school house, taking her seat in the middle of the room. "Ok ladies, today we will be learning a new spell . . ."

As the teacher continued to speak, Olivia drowned out every word. Her head rested against her hand, and her mind wondered. 'I wish I just knew every spell already so I wouldn't have to go to school', 'Do children in civilization have to do this?', 'How easy would it be for me to just leave here and do something else for a change?' These were all thoughts that occupied her mind, some that she hadn't been able to shake for a long time.

Without a moment of hesitation her arm shot into the air. "I need to use the restroom" she said, interrupting the class. With a sigh of annoyance, the elder witch waved at her to go, and Olivia stood up, exiting the building, taking her notebook with her.

She jogged into the forest, a slight ways from the small coven she lived in, but a place she was familiar with. She scanned the area quickly, and when no one was around she used her powers to present a ivory cape that draped down her back. As a nine year old, this would be the biggest life decision Olivia would ever make, but deep down she knew it was the right thing.

Letting two surges of green energy escape both hands, she used her magic to lift herself into the sky. She cheered out, howling into the clouds, celebrating this first stitch of freedom she has ever felt. Without a destination in mind, she chose the direction that called to her and flew onward. Little did she know, this would be the moment her life changed forever.
