It was mid April, the year now being 2023, five years since the fight with Thanos. So much and so little had happened in that amount of time. Steve and Natasha were married, some time was spent with friends, petty missions for things that no longer seemed to matter helped pass the time. After his urge to retire and start a life with Pepper, Tony hadn't worn the suit in a long time, refusing to go on any missions. The only ones fighting now were Steve, Nat, Carol, Okoye, Rhodey, Nebula, and Rocket. Even though they tried their best to keep up with everything going on in the world, it would never feel the same as it once did.
Natasha stood quietly in the kitchen of the compound, herself being the only one to occupy the space of the building. As she spread some peanut butter onto two slices of bread she listened to the meeting going on in front of her. As what felt like the new leader of the Avengers, Natasha felt a lot of pressure on herself to get everything right so that no one had to feel the pain they all went through ever again. She had everything on her radar. Everything came through her. She wished Steve was more involved with group matters, but lately he had shied away, creating a support group for people in the area. In fact that's where he was right now, listening to other peoples issues rather than dealing with his own.
She cut her sandwich in half, glancing up at the holograms of people in front of her. "You get a reading on those tremors?" Natasha asked, moving to a seat at the table.
"'Twas a mild subduction under the African plate" Okoye stated.
Natasha leaned up against the table, resting all of her weigh onto her arms and hands. "Do we have a visual? How are we handling it?"
"Nat. It's an earthquake under the ocean. We handle it by not handling it" Okoye said, softly. She tried to be gentle with Natasha. She knew all of the stress the Russian would put herself through over the tiniest things.
"Carol, are we seeing you here next month?" Nat asked.
"Not likely" Carol stated.
"What? You gonna get another haircut?" Rocket asked, finally saying something about the blondes new, short hair style.
"Listen, fur face. I'm covering a lot of territory. The things that are happening on Earth are happening everywhere. On thousands of planets" Carol snapped back, wanting to bring attention for the amount of work that she's doing behind the scenes. Rocket acknowledged this, sort of feeling bad about the sly comment he made. "So you might not see me for a long time."
"Alright. Uh, well . . .This channel's always active. So, if anything goes sideways, anyone's making trouble where they shouldn't. . . Comes through me" Natasha said, wishing they could have Carol on their side more often. Out of everyone left, she was the most powerful one, and Natasha wanted her at their disposal in case they got into any unwanted trouble. But she knew it wasn't possible to have everyone around anymore. Everyone was needed where they were.
Everyone agreed, leaving the channel, until there was only one person left. Rhodey, who had been overly quiet until now. Natasha sighed, sitting in the chair at the table. Papers were scattered all across, books were stacked, this had almost become Natasha's new workplace. She glanced back up, noticing that Rhodey was still present. "Where are you?" she asked, crossing her arms.
"Mexico. The Federales found a room full of bodies. Looks like a bunch of cartel guys never even had a chance to get their guns off" Rhodey said.
