Over the past week that Olivia had been home from Sokovia, she was acting a lot different. Natasha was the first to notice. Olivia wasn't as excited about little things as she usually was, she wasn't talking people's ears off, in school she was completely zoned out, and in training she was just going through the motions.
Sarah had asked Olivia to hang out twice, but Olivia turned her down. Olivia's room was messy and she was isolating herself. Natasha sat at the table with Steve, eating Olivia's favorite for dinner, spaghetti.
"Steve, I'm really worried about her. If she isn't even in the mood to eat spaghetti, there's something seriously wrong" Natasha said, picking at her own food.
"She still won't talk to you about it?" Steve asked.
Natasha shook her head. "It must have been bad Steve . . . I'm going to bring her a plate and see if she'll talk to me. It's been a week." Natasha stood up, and made Olivia a plate of pasta. She grabbed a fork and walked to her room, knocking on the door.
"Who is it?" A faint voice could be heard, but Olivia knew who it was.
"Mom. Can I come in?" Natasha asked.
"Yea" Olivia said. When Natasha entered the room she saw clothes on the floor, cups on her desk, and wrappers all around. Olivia sat, molded in front of her TV.
"I brought you some dinner" Nat said softly, bringing the plate to Olivia. Olivia took the plate from her, sitting it in her lap. Natasha sat beside her. "Liv, I don't know what you went through in Sokovia, but I would like to understand. Could you just talk to me about it?"
Olivia looked up at her. "I'm afraid that if I talk about it, it will happen again" Olivia said.
"It won't happen again, and you know that" Natasha said softly.
Olivia was hesitant for a moment, but she did know this. She was just afraid. "When the elder witch came to get me, she bound my hands, so I was completely helpless. As soon as we got to Sokovia they threw me in this room, and I was terrified." Olivia continued to tell her more of the story.
"I guess I'm just still in shock . . . I came seconds from dying and then I watched and helped kill people that I knew. People who raised me. They did awful things to me growing up, but seeing them dye and watching the coven get destroyed was a lot" Olivia said. She didn't have many tears left to cry.
Natasha could physically feel her heart aching. Hearing about Olivia's pain hurt, and she would take that experience and pain and have it for herself if it meant that Olivia didn't have to. "I'm really sorry that happened to you. And I'm proud of you for being able to talk about it."
Olivia nodded, taking a bite of her pasta. She smiled. It was the first little bit of joy she had felt all week. "You know pasta is my weakness and would get me to talk" Olivia said, glaring playfully.
"Maybe. . ." Natasha said. "We should go swimming in the lake after you eat. What do you say?" Natasha thought doing something they had never done would get Olivia up and going.
"Okay" Olivia nodded, carrying her plate out to the dinner table since it would be easier to eat. Natasha followed behind her and gave Steve a small thumbs up so that Olivia wouldn't see. "Do you want to go swimming with us?"
