"Can you even believe it?" Natasha said, staring at one of the graveless headstones that sat firmly in the grass outside of the compound. Each headstone had the name of a fallen Avenger; that day they teamed up and fought Thanos. "She is 20 years old today."
"That is unreal. She was nine just yesterday. I can't believe we've known her for that long" Steve said, gripping Natasha's hand tighter as they looked at the gravestone of their deceased daughter. "Do you ever wish we could have another child?" Steve didn't want to sound insensitive, especially since it was Olivia's birthday, but he was curious as to where Natasha stood with the thought.
"As a child, I always dreamed about having my little family when I grew up. And then as a teenager, pondered the idea of what it would feel like to be pregnant. I didn't want to get pregnant that young of course, but I think the fact that I'm unable to have biological kids made me more curious" Natasha said, rubbing her nose which had grown stiff from the cold air of November in New York. "I don't want to have another child, because I don't think I could love them as much as I love her. And I got my little family, even if it was for a short amount of time, I still got it."
"I'm glad I could be apart of it. Come on, let's head inside" Steve said, the couple walking hand and hand back into the warmth of the compound. Green balloons and pieces of confetti blew in the wind as they lay next to Olivia's grave. "So I was thinking we celebrate a little different this year."
"Yeah? How so?" Natasha asks, hanging her white trench coat in the closet right beside the front door.
"Well every year we do the same thing. Cook Olivia's favorite food. . ."
"Spaghetti" Natasha stated.
"Watch her favorite movie. . ."
"'50 First Dates'" Natasha chimed in again.
"And look at the stars, but I feel like we should do something bigger" Steve said. "But I'm not sure what to do. No one comes to celebrate anymore. It's just us."
"Steve, it's okay. We don't have to do anything big. We can stick to tradition, Olivia would love it. You know she's not a big party girl, she liked to keep it simple. We can keep it simple" Natasha said, walking over to him. She stood in front of him, running her hands up and down the sides of his arms. The two of them shared a kiss and moved into the living room where they took their seats on the couch. "Even though we celebrate every year, I really don't like this day anymore. It's just another reminder" Natasha admitted. She had never spoke this feeling aloud before.
Steve sighed with relief. "I'm so glad you said that, because I feel the same way. I just said what I said because I thought you wanted to celebrate. . ." he admitted.
"What if we did the exact opposite of how we normally celebrate? Show November 1st who's boss?" Natasha smiled a little.
"And how would we do that?" Steve asked.
"We start by watching Olivia's least favorite movie. . ."
"Titanic" Steve said.
"And we eat her least favorite food. . ."
"Seafood, with the exception of salmon" Steve laughed.
"And we do her least favorite activity. . ."
